i was wondering if anyone else thought it might be an acceptable idea for a pally of onatar to use infusions instead of divine spells?

No, not really, because -- especially in Eberron -- I see Paladins as being far more devoted to their alignment/code than to their god in particular. It may vary from Paladin to Paladin, but Paladins in general don't actually get their powers from their god and don't have things like Clerical domains and stuff. In Eberron, especially, where gods don't have a provable objective existence, I think a Paladin who stays LG but converts from worshipping Dol Arrah to worshipping the Flame doesn't lose anything.

Also, there's no good way to scale infusions for a Paladin spell list.

why not it's not like either one has a spells known list? only a spells per day, they may gain a few more options to their list but it'd still be the same amount per day.
also if you look at the wf's racial sub lvls for a pally and then add on top of that an onatar angle i see even less of a reason not to say go ahead and do it.

That's prety ridiculous. Does Onatar grant his clerics infusions instead of spells? Of course not and neither would paladins.

You're not honestly trying to say Onatar is the source of infusions are you? Or that every artificer in existence pays fealty to Onatar to receive infusions?

Onatar is a god of artifice. Infusions come from the artificer class. Not the same thing.

Er, Paladins have a specific list of spells that they can get as Paladins, which is more restricted than the Clerical spell list.

Like Shady314 said, the idea behind divine spellcasting in Eberron is that this is the kind of magic you get for believing in things -- *anything*. Clerics of Mystra in Forgotten Realms are *still Clerics* and get divine spells, not arcane spells. Clerics of Onatar are still Clerics, not Artificers, and you can be an Artificer without believing in Onatar.

And, really, Artificer infusions pretty much are balanced only because you have to take a bad-BAB class to get them. Even the 1st-level infusions are scary if ordinary Paladins with Action Points can take them. (Seriously, a Paladin being able to undead bane his sword whenever he wants, then Smite with it? C'mon.)
