I was reading the Eberron campaign setting book, and it was discussing a 13th dragonmark that was called the Mark of Death. Does anyone really know what the Mark of Death has when it comes to abilities and such? I know it is said to have disappeared off of Eberron, but I was just thinking of bringing it back into play.

Thank you ahead of time for all that post :)

No. Propably something related to death.

your far from the only one.

There is no official description of the Mark of Death but look through the forums and you'll find dozens of versions.

Also to note one mark of Death survives on Eranis D'Vol but is inactive since she's a lich.

So, would it be possible that there are individuals still left of the House that had the Mark of Death to still be living? I mean, I haven't read much about the Cult of Vol's history, but obviously, Erandis d'Vol came from the House. I am just thinking there could be survivors from her house. Obviously, they would probably be the decendants of the original members, but they would still have a chance for the Mark to manifest.

Though, if the Mark of Death becomes active again in Eberron, would a 13th moon form as well because the moons have a link to the moons?

Or strawberries. Or chocolate. Maybe chocolate covered strawberries.

Now I wish I had the mark of death.

You should read the lost mark trilogy it is written there that Eranis doesnt have the mark although she has it laminated on the wall. The story is about the elven child called Espre and she has the ability to kill with touch so i think that the most equivalent spell/power/something is similar to evil clerics death domain granted power(instant kill, touch, DC 10+cha+lvl).

P.S. Members of the house of Vol (but only very distant relatives) are still living couse to wipe out entire elven bloodline takes a lot of lives

YEY! Now I have a good reason for having the Mark of Death in my campaign when I develope it.

This Lost Mark trilogy...is it hard to find, or is it common at book stores? For some reason, that death touch ability reminds me of Rogue from X-Men. It does sound like an interesting story though, so I will have to look for it :)

Killing with a touch is a power that belongs to the realm of aberrant dragonmarks. True marks and aberrant marks never share powers.

I figure it has something to do with animating corpses. And if I remember correctly, Keith said that the Mark of Death might've been stronger than the other marks (or was it just Erandis's mark?).

Well, I did research on the book, and it is called "Marked for Death" (the first one), and the book trilogy is called The Lost Mark. I don't think that it probably automatically kills them as much as a ghoul touch ability or something of the sort. If it caused negative levels or ability drain, then it could kill someone (a character is killed if they have 0 Constitution or has more negative levels than character levels). Sorry...I know you probably knew all that...I get carried away sometimes when I am typing.

Oh, and the Mark of Death that is illustrated in the book looks really really cool.:)

They were exterminated because it was dangerously delicious.

(Also, to the people suggesting that the Mark of Death had to do with undead: wouldn't that make it the Mark of UNdeath?)

Nope...actually, it told in the Eberron setting that it had to deal with undead, so if the ability that the elf has in the Lost Mark Trilogy is like Ghoul's Touch, then the Mark of Death has powers from negative energy in general.

Espre's hands glow black and grow kinda claw like shapes where her nails would be and only a few creatures can survive her touch (when she wants the power to activate for clarafication) such as half-dragons,dragons,dire creatures probably Espre and Vol are the only two elfs(Vol formerly elf) with the Mark of Death.unless you want to create more in your campaign.

Where in the ECS did it say that? Also, the novels aren't canon and can't be used to defend a point.

Well, in the ECS it said that it had to deal with undeath (don't even ask me for the page number...cause the index doesn't have the Mark of Death listed). I am just brainstorming for the fact that it does sound like an interesting concept. I know the books aren't canon; I just want to have some ideas for what powers I will have the Mark of Death have in my campaign.

I thought the Lost Mark series was painful to read... It's just a never ending loop of 'got it, lost it, got it back, lost it again' rinse and repeat... I hope you enjoy it, but I really didn't... I finished the second book and decided to never buy another in the series. I just got aggravated by the whole repetitive plot.

The Dreaming Dark series is pretty good tho (if a bit predictable), but doesn't relate at all to subject at all... Yay for thread hijacking!

Where in the ECS did it say that? Also, the novels aren't canon and can't be used to defend a point. There really isn't a lot on the Mark of Death in the ECS... The only actual reference to it's powers is in the Blood of Vol organization entry (ECS pg228) in which "the matriarch used her powers over death to make sure her beloved daughter survived." Usually a lich needs to be 11th level or higher to create their phylactery, but perhaps the greater Mark of Death bestows a bastardized version of Lich ritual.

Anywho, I don't think the ECS design crew have really approached the topic directly... I'd bet that they'll wait till they don't have much material to cover left before they release a "Mark of Death" supplement.

Dragonmarked might have had a lot more in it, but I can't remember at the moment (afb).

There is a reference to the Mark of Death in the time line at the back of the Life in Eberron section. It said that the Dragonmark house (House of Vol) was wiped out. Also, earlier in the timeline, it said that the Mark of Death manifested among the elves.

Anyways, it is okay to hijack threads (I do it every so often too). Hmmmmm...well, I do have another 25 bucks to spend, so I am thinking of buying a Eberron novel. However, what you said about the Lost Mark trilogy kind of turns me off to it. Now I am off to look in the book section of WotC. :)
