I'm working on a sorcerer (as some of you will have heard, since I've got a couple of other threads on him). Storm themed, a Lyrander, and is going to have Favored in House. At high levels, I'm thinking he needs his own airship to be his base of operations. It'll sport a Cloudgathering Orb from the old Stronghold Builder's Guidebook (basically, it makes a nasty storm around your base for a 2 mile radius), and I need a good name.

I'm currently leaning towards "The Eye", as in the eye of the storm, but I don't know how good of a ship name that would actually be.

Anyone with ideas?

A name from an ancient PCs castle sounds fitting, Stormhaven.

A khoravar character of mine acquired the captaincy of a new airship through some chain of lucky events in commerce, and thus named the ship `The Gift of Kol Korran'.

Naming things for gods is always classy and safe.

An NPC ally of the party in my campaign captains an airship known as The Tempest. Besides the unintentionally connection to shakespeare it seems to fit your idea.

>>insert masurement of time<< >>insert bird of prey<<

the Century Eagle, the Eon Kestrel, the Bicentennial Buzzard, etc...

I always like the practice of naming vessels after places important to the crew though. The "Spirit of Sharn" or "Pride of Flamekeep".

Yes Buzzard (http://http://www.southpenquite.co.uk/buzzard.jpg). You're probably thinking of vultures, which are often referred to as "buzzards". They too are birds of prey though; members of the order Accipitriformes along with eagles, hawks, and kites. They're actually more closely related to each other than any of them are to falcons (order Falconiformes).

Well, it appears we have an ornithologist on the forums.

The ship in my campaign is called, in elven, "the Act of Taming the Wind to use a Saddle." In Common, it's "The Breaking Wind.":D

Here are some I've used in the past: Alliance, Acheron, Bloodwake, Cloud Skate, Crimson Star, Swift’s Pride, Fireclaw, Fire’s Path, Gallant Haven, Harilin, Harlequin, Kol Korran's Doubt, Lost Cause, Lost Nomad, Marauder, Ontar's Joy, Pathfinder, Red Claw, Roc, Thunderflame, Thunvarch, Vindicator, Warspite, Xen'Drik Clipper.

If you're really out of ideas, just pick an adjective.

Oh, then there is the Forgotten Freedom, but I'd avoid that. Bad karma! :P

Stormrider, Windjammer, Thunderchild*, Devourer's Kiss, Blue Sky (as in: out of a clear blue sky), Thunderbolt, Stormlord, Hammer of the Wind, Lightning's Father, Tempest, Maelstrom, Devourer's Embrace, Wavecrasher, Devourer's Wrath, Thunderbird, the list could go on forever.

*The HMS Thunderchild comes from the book War of the Worlds, it's a dreadnaught that faced down a trio of Tripods in the English Channel, after destroying two of them it was crippled so the captain and crew aimed it at the third and stoked the boilers to full speed, taking the third tripod down with it. I've always been rather fond of the Thunderchild for that fighting spirit, although it is only a work of fiction.

Actually, the HMS Thunder Child was a torpedo ram in the book. In the musical version, it is presented as an ironclad (not a dreadnaught, since dreadnaughts did not even exist until 1906).

How about something to do with the Lyrandar firstborn.

'Lyran's Sanctum.'

'Light of the Firstborn'.

'Lyran's Lightning (or the Lightning of Lyran).'

'Sela's Storm (or the Storm of Sela).'

You're right, it was the musical I was thinking of and it was an ironclad. Good catch, my mind isn't what it used to be.

How about: The Pegasus, The Yugoloth, The Crimson Arbiter, The Rusty Surfer, The Copper Skater, [insert member of party here] is silly (in a language they can't under stand), The Nearly Forgotten Freedom, The Remembered Freedom, The Listless Bard.

Thats all I can think of. By the way Wymarc I really like the Mute Harpy idea

Well, being something of a traditionalist at times, and with the tradition that you always refer to any ship as "she," I'd suggest naming your craft after a woman.

I've always like the Dejah Thoris... :D

It also depends on what he'll be using the ship for. piracy, smuggling, defense, or simply travel. You want the ship's name to allude to its purpose somehow.

That's probably the best sounding one you'll be able to come up with. Usually your first thoughts on the matter of naming queer the chances of anything else sounding good.

Perhaps for a twist, you could call the ship "The Devourer's Love" and have your PC call it "my Love" when he talks about her. "The Storm's Love" would work as well. That would probably give the other players the creeps if you maintained that illusion at all times.

One of the NPCs in my campaign has her own airship, it's called the Blue Sky Lady.

Of course, you could always fall back on the names of the warships in the Battle of Trafalgar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Trafalgar_aufstellung.jpg) ... there's some good ones, there:
Victory
Zealous
Euryalus
Endymion
Revenge
Conqueror
Leviathan
and, my personal favorite -- Pickle! :)

Airship Names off of the top of my head:

The Vigilant (hovercraft in one of the Matrix movies).
The Opportune Rain (nickname of a Chinese Folk hero).

The Breath of Olladra
The Dawnchaser

The Thunder Road (the name of the spaceship in the movie, Explorer, & named after a Bruce Springsteen song. )

The Cloudrender

How about the Cloud Gatherer or the Gathering Cloud.

I'm actually surprised this one didn't come up so far.

My personal favorite is... Serenity! :)

However, if you wish to be a little more original, you could go for something like Tranquility. Or Temperance maybe (tarot anyone?).

Every game in Eberron worth its salt has some experience with airships. We have had two that deserve mention. Feel free to use them as crash sites or name sources. The first, Lady Grey, was an airship that we had for a little while “on loan” from Lyrandar. They eventually repossessed it, and we not too happy with us. Ever walk the plank at 1000 feet up in the air?

The second airship was much smaller and was modeled on the Brig (sable drake), we named her the Amber Bell, after a enchanted amber bell that conjured a Mass Unseen Servant to do the chores aboard ship. I loved the games that we played with that group. Lots of fun. They are currently on leave in Thrane.

and as for naming the ship...... I have nothing better than what anyone else has suggested, but I would give the ship a comedic name (because I play campaigns that have comedic twists in them. Take that you somber pricks!)

The Queen Aurelia,
Razor's Edge ( captain Razor was a notorious pirate in my campeghns)
The Comet.
The Falling Shard
Perhilion

The Ship of Fools
The Black Rose (another pirate airship)

One of my players is going for the Dread Pirate PrC, he just got a ship (not an airship, although one of my other players wants one) and he named it The Grey Mourn. I tried to tell him that might not be the best choice, given its only been two years since Cyre exploded. He just smiled and shrugged...Pssssh...pirates...

The one jump Behind
Sounds... familiar.

I wouldn't suggest "Eye of the Storm", simply because it's too obvious. I'd picture this or the "Kraken's Wake" as the flagships of House Lyrandar, with the Eye as a relatively mobile one while the Kraken would be a veritable flying fortress with several elemental rings and massive armaments.

I still try very hard not to think about a trip to Xen'Drik that discovers an ancient gold covered airship in the shape of a giant condor...

Hmm.. well, names from my campaign (for airships are ships in general)

The Snake in the Grass and Emperor of the Seas are both lyrandar elemental sea galleons, the Tears of the Night Sky is piloted by Blood of Vol worshipping pirates, the Dragon's Last Kiss, Hunter's Pride, and Wrath of Fallen Angels are Aundairian Naval vessels built since the Last War, the Eternal Devotion is the flagship of Aereni navy.

For actual airships, the Cloudchaser, Storm's Mistress, Dragonhawk's Roost, Shining Claw and Heir of Eternity are Lyrandar craft.

The Taste of Bitter Tears is an ancient airship of Giant manufacture which melds elemental binding with living construct design to create a sentient craft requiring virtually no crew (a few elven slaves at most). The ship named herself in the aftermath of the destruction of the giant civilization of Xendrik. Unbeknownst to my PCs, the artifact craft (which they believe to be inert) has inserted its influence into the minds of the best and brightest of the Twelve who have come to study it. I can't wait to spring the surprise that THEY delivered into power the entity that is waging silent war against Argonneson, Aerenal, and the Quori in the name of vengeance for the Cataclysm of Xendrik.
