Does anyone have a extensive list of names for people of the various nations out there or should I do the work myself?

Idealy I'm looking for a list of names that will let me the DM be able to find a NPC name on the fly.

I think Five Nations has a list of common names for those five countries?

Yeah they do, I'm just lazy and don't want to write them all down myself. But I am prepared to do so if i have to.

Edit: Ok I have compiled a list of all the names from PHB and 5N, but I'm uncertain if I violate the code of conduct if Publish it, so if someone could tell me if it is or is not I would be happy to post it here.

It would violate the CoC.

As an aside, Hero Builder's Guidebook has a long list of first names, surnames, and clan names for the PHB races.

I use this one the most:
Fantasy Name Generator: http://www.rinkworks.com/namegen/

I use this one sometimes:
20,000 Names: http://www.20000-names.com/index.htm

And don't forget the good old standbys, spelling a word backwards or making an anagram of a word.

Arnold -> D'lonra.
Name -> Maen

See? It works! :D

Remember Melf? As in the Acid Arrow?

Male Elf. Seriously.

Remember Melf? As in the Acid Arrow?

Male Elf. Seriously.Yeah, a bunch of the original "iconic" characters were just really bad pun names made up by Gygax and Anderson and the rest of their crew.

Gary Gygax's Extraordinary Book of Names (http://www.amazon.com/Gygaxs-Extraordinary-Gygaxian-Fantasy-Worlds/dp/1931275564/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1202871107&sr=8-1) has been invaluable to me. Breaks down names by real world ethnicities and gives pronunciation guides and histories. Also gives generators for fantasy names, organizations, place names, and nicknames.

This is great, thank you all, no longer will i have to stumble around naming NPCs lame names... at least not so often.

Not only that, but by transposing a letter in an English name and you can come up with some interesting results.

Kelly -- Selly, Kassy.

Merlin -- Murlon, Meslin, Terlin, Xerlyn

Jessica -- Jevicca, Jeticca, Jeffisa, Dessica, Devika

Elton -- Alton, Aldon, Eltoc, Ecton, Ectir, Ertoc

Keith -- Kaith, Kaish, Keish, Kriesh

Geoffrey -- Deoffrey, Geossrey, Geoffreu, Jethro

I like the Everchanging Book of Names (http://ebon.pyorre.net/), myself.

EDIT - I should mention, I've completed a changeling file for it. I've been working on the rest, which would be greatly helped if I had a few free hours to compile the names from all the sourcebooks.

Does it have a Mac version? Last time I checked, it was just Windows.

've completed a changeling file for it.Which is what, exactly? All the other books put together?
I mean, Changelings don't have a unique culture or even group, they take the names of whatever race/region they are in...

Er, changelings have those one-syllable names. So, they were the easiest to do. Really, the only reason the other races' name files haven't been finished yet is I'm a perfectionist who wants to include names from most of the Eberron books.

I usually just head on over to Behind the Name (http://www.behindthename.com/) and type in a name meaning I'm looking for. Works like a charm!

I do that a lot. Archaic names are good for fantasy and even if no one else knows the meaning, I just feel better knowing how intricately it relates to my character.
