I am working on an adventure as an introduction to my players of the Eberron setting. The basic idea is that the Lord Mayor of Sharn is planning an extravagant festival to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Thronehold. To coincide with this festival the adventuring guilds of Sharn have decided to work together to create the Khorvaire Open.

The Open is a set of competitions designed to showcase adventurers from across the continent. It is promoted as a way for adventures to show what their worth. I figured it would be a great start since many patrons will be watching the games to find just teh right sort of adventurer for their needs.

So far this is still in its infancy as a concept. I figure the first round of competitions will be a qualifying round that will allow the judges to guage the abilities of each contestant and place him in the correct ranking of skills. This will allow me to still introduce NPC's of greater levels into the competion without liiting the PC's any chance of winning their portion of the competition. There will be varying awards for each level of competion.

Some of the events I was thinking of including was;

Tournament of Duels: One-on-one combat tournament. Loser is first to 50% hp. Points given by ranking.

Grand Melee: A 100 man free-for-all. Points given for order in which you were eliminated. Judges withdraw combatants when they hit 50% hp

The Labyrinth: A maze filled with traps. Points based on time it takes to reach the center.

Archery Tournament: self-explanatory

The Hunt: A number of creatures have been released in a closed off portion of the Cogs. Each creature has a collar with a arcane mark. POints are based off of number of collars gained after 8 hrs.

Towers Melee: 100 Man melee tournament fought from the tops of 20ft poles. Balance and Jump a must.

Not sure how I want to handle spell casting competitions. Ideas are welcome.

Competitors will be grouped into teams of 4 or 5, depending on the nuimber of players I have, and points earned wil add to the total of the team.

I was thinking about a final competition between each of the high scoring teams from each level of competition. Just haven't decided what it will be. Maybe pit the players against parties of higher levels in some sort of task.

So what do you all think? Any ideas for interesting competitions? Also any suggestions on what levels should be grouped per level of competition. I am not planning on having any competitors above 6th level. Anyone should have already made a name for themselves by then.

You thought up the same competitions I did but you also need to take each competition and make an arcane version of it for spellcasters.

And a race.

The final task? Scavenger hunt obviously! But it's not going door to door finding silly items. The prize itself has been hidden somewhere within Sharn. Now go!
