| Tanvalis02-23-07, 09:37 PM | I've got an idea for a character, An Kilted Bard Bagpiper going for the Warchanter PrC... my question is where would an Irish/Celtic person be best to hail from in Eberron? My first choice was the Eldeen Reaches as it's wooded and green and it would even have the added benifit of being recently given it's own national identity (much as Ireland and Scottland have been warring with the English for most of thier histories). I was just wondering if there were any other possiblities... Also, in the back of my mind is a possibility of a Dirge Singer (idea stolen from someone on these boards sorry I forget who)... working with a Karnathi Necromancer... |

If you're going for a Warchanter, it might help to come from a more martially inclined society. Preferably your character would have some kind of military/combat experience. I would definitely encourage pursuit of the Dirge Singer concept or someone from Karnnath. |

| spyone02-24-07, 05:30 PM | "Where would an Irish/Celtic person be best to hail from in Eberron?" would be a much better title for this thread. Only my overdeveloped curiosity drew me in at all. |

I would suggest The Reaches or even making him Half-fey and have him come from Thelanis. By the way spyone, i never expected to see another Va. Beacher around here. Ive lived there for 15 years, though im in Idaho right now. 757 in the house, baby! |

I have been known to off characters and exile players for things like that. I don't care how cool Braveheart was, you're not playing a highlander. Why? Because it's freakin' OA, that's why. If you can prove to me there was a huge Scottish population in medieval Japan, I'll let it slide. I said no. |

Speaking as full blooded, kilted, Caber tossing Scotsman; I can say that even A single Scotsman would DRAMATICALLY raise the quality of any campaign, especially OA. |
| Nived02-25-07, 11:20 PM | Hey I think you dropped your sense of humor somewhere. Personally the one time I used a kiltwearing dirgesinger with bagpipes of the damned it was as a villian. The party had a cleric who was rather turn happy and they rarely took undead threats seriously... so I countered that ability, and sent a lot of low level undead, and between bolstering song and the pipes (which I decided would stack, its debateable) they weren't able to turn... so they had to fight. While yeah it was originally kind of a joke, the man standing alone at the top of the hill in a 'dress' started playing the low trobbing mournful tones on the pipes... it stopped being funny rather quickly when the horde of undead crested the hill and surged at the party. It's remembered fondly by my players because they had a hard time with it... and yeah just saying it is funny. The phrase "Kilt wearing dirgesinger with bagpipes of the damned" brings a smile to my face... but man there's no need to take offense to it. Relax buddy. Sides, this isn't an OA forum, and I don't post on the main boards. I think kilt wearing dirgesingers with bagpipes of the damed would have a place in Eberron. Karrnath particularly, put them up in northeastern Karrnath near the Mror Holds... The kilt part is debatable but if you were to put Dirgesingers and Bagpipes of the Damned (which in my humble opinion is the best specifically named magic item in D&D ever) anywhere I'd say there. |

| goblin_pride02-26-07, 12:07 AM | Hey I think you dropped your sense of humor somewhere. I was kidding, but that was a direct quote from me after one of my players in a second ed OA campaign saw Braveheart. I scrapped the OA game because the player in question wanted to try his hand at DMing a Celtic-themed* campaign. Reading this thread just reminded me of it and for the record, it was the bagpipes of the damned that I object to. *it was this campaign that caused me to have a more keen understanding of druids and goblins, both of which are now near and dear to me. |
