| RFrenchJr01-09-08, 12:08 PM | My campaign is moving into Cragwar and I've skimmed through some of the books only to come up empty handed. My questions to you, the Eberron Forum Community, are two fold. 1) Is there any published material on Cragwar and 2) have you done anything in Cragwar for your own campaign? Thanks for the input and feedback. |

It's interesting to note that, judging from the political landscape throughout the Last War, Cragwar was located mostly on the Breland/Thrane border, which made it a flashpoint of combat throughout the 10th century. I believe Cragwar was in Thrane prior to the Last War. Among notable events are: 923 YK: The Battle of the Greenhaunt takes place in the forests between Cragwar and Sword keep. This conflict involved Breland and Thrane. 926 YK: A Brelish raid near Cragwar is repelled by Thrane forces. 930 YK: A ceasefire is issued between Breland and Thrane. Thrane voluntarily pulls back north of Cragwar and Sword Keep, and Breland assumes control of a border anchored by those strongholds. 950 YK: Thrane overruns Cragwar and Sword Keep, driving Brelish troops south to Hatheril. 951 YK: Breland and Thrane clash at Cragwar and Hatheril. 959 YK: Aundair launches a strike force south against the depleted Thrane garrison in Cragwar and takes the city. 961 YK: King Boranex of Breland approves for an attempt to retake the rich mines of Cragwar from Aundair. This was the only major confrontation between Breland and Aundair in the Last War. The month-long siege features the death of King Boranex's two eldest sons, which cost a heavy price in Brelish morale. The princes are soon named the "Martyrs of Cragwar." One month later, King Boranex dies; rumors circulate that he lost his will to live. The third in line, Boranel, ascends to the Brelish throne. That's all I could find. |

From what I've read Cragwar seems to have suffered significantly during the war, and you should consider the impact it has left on the town and the general demeanour of people. Perhaps you could have the PCs run into a public quarrel between a couple of unforgiving Brelish citizens and some heated Thranes, or perhaps the PCs could be part of one of the mobs. I can only imagine that some sort of enmity prowls in local taverns or ill-fated parts of town but then I might be wrong. In the end, it's all up to you. Also, the Aurum seems to have a strong presence in Cragwar, exploiting the questionable state which the war probably has left the town. Perhaps you could somehow drag these gluttonous aristocrats into the campaign. Do the PCs posses something they potentially could be interested in? Or would they suit as apt patrons? - Tharkan |

Thanks for all of your input. Always glad to be of help! The Aurum, you say? That's great. I personally love that shadowy alliance, and their ubiety in Cragwar seems most fitting. Suffice it to say that Cragwar is the "backwater" of Breland, and this should play a role as well. It is most probable that the vigilance and attentiveness of guards is notably lighter here than other, more cardinal, cities such as Sharn or Wroat. Most guards are probably inclined to succumb to corruption which is perfect for an organization such as the Aurum. Perhaps you could have them "secretly" running illegal matches or games here and there just for the sake of flavour. Should hopefully give the players that real 'we-better-watch-our-backs-here'-feel, heh. |
