| JulesCARV03-07-07, 01:03 PM | I'm just wondering: is Erandis d'Vol a truly devout believer in the Blood of Vol, or does she not really care about the religious aspects, and mainly want to restore the Mark of Death so that she can gain more personal power? A little of both? Neither? |
| DarkWarriorKarg03-07-07, 01:12 PM | As she predates the Blood of Vol, I'd say they are a useful tool... kind of like evil Shriners. However, IMG, she follows the ancestral beliefs of her family, reflected by the fact that I made her a true Necromancer (20TH) which still leaves her casting spells as a 16th level wizard (and cleric)... and a CL around 24 for necromantic spells... |
| Lancer201003-07-07, 01:59 PM | As she predates the Blood of Vol, I'd say they are a useful tool... kind of like evil Shriners. I now have the image of the cultists wearing fezs. I shall now pass this image onto my DM. |
| Loki565403-07-07, 03:33 PM | As she predates the Blood of Vol, I'd say they are a useful tool... kind of like evil Shriners. The fundamental precepts of the religion now known as the Blood of Vol have ancient roots in the elven House Vol, centuries before Erandis was born. The Blood of Vol is not related to worshipping Erandis in any way. But I'd say she sees them as a tool. |
| UnderworldLord03-07-07, 03:38 PM | Its actually possible she could do both... yes she does believe the REAL version, but she also sees it as a useful tool for food/followers/whatever. |
| Sereno03-07-07, 04:06 PM | I also vote for both. The concepts of the BoV predate Erandis by a lot and she would have grown up in a culture that was completely immersed in it, to the point of feeling it was truly her destiny. However, that said, I don't think she hesitates for a second to use the current religion for her own purposes. |
| Vharuck03-07-07, 05:30 PM | Sorta like how a Silver Flame bishop could wholeheartedly believe in the Flame, but still see these people below him who happily do his bidding as being very useful in getting what he wants. |
| Roland the Crownbreaker03-07-07, 06:56 PM | Or possibly that it started out as merely a useful tool, and she has started to believe in it. Tell yourself a lie often enough and long enough, and eventually you actually believe it. But the truth is whatever the DM feels is appropriate for his particular campaign.- |
| UnderworldLord03-07-07, 08:06 PM | Another Excellent analogy Roland, and just application of Rule 0. |
| Kaodi03-07-07, 10:56 PM | I would say that Erandis is numero uno in her own (un)life. That being said, I do believe that she is entirely into the religion. When a conflict arises between the two, she will favour herself without a second thought, but only if it is a critical issue to her. She won't cheat on her religion though out of convenience, or a whim, or on anything that does not pose an existential threat (or a part of one) to herself. |
| OneWinged4ngel03-08-07, 03:38 AM | Actually, it's said that the basic precepts of the faith of the Blood of Vol were born over 20,000 years ago in Xen'drik, by the Qabalrin, IIRC. They also created the first vampires. You can find info on them mainly in Secrets of Xen'drik, and the Eberron Expanded Libris Mortis article. |
| The_Last_Rogue03-08-07, 05:21 PM | kind of like evil Shriners. There is another kind?? |
