Flags/Heraldry/Crests of Khorvaire's states? [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-23-07, 02:42 AM This thread has probably come up a lot before, but does anyone know where to find the flags, heraldry, crests, or whatnot of Khorvaire's states? I've seen the crests of the Dragonmarked Houses, but I don't know where the national symbols are.

04-23-07, 02:55 AM Five Nations has Aundair's, Breland's, Karrnath's and Thrane. Cyre's is conspicuously missing. I have no idea why the images of the nations crests are not in the Five Nations art gallery on the website but they are indeed in the book.

As for the other nations? No idea.

04-23-07, 12:32 PM This made me think about how the coat of arms of Galifar looked like. And I'm inclined to picture it as being made up of the five symbols of the Five Nations. The escutcheon (shield) would be parted quarterly with a heart (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Parted_quarterly_with_a_heart.svg) , with the centre occupied by the coat of arms of Karrnath (Galifar's homeland) or Cyre (geographical location, my favourite option). The CoA of the United Kingdom was composed in a similar way.

New Galifar in Qbarra could be using a variant of the Galifaran coat of arms described above.

Valenar may well not have a coat of arms at all. Do elves even use such symbols?

That leaves us with the Mror Holds (possibly same story as with Valenar above), Darguun, Zilargo and Droaam in need of their own crests. Any ideas?

04-23-07, 01:17 PM For the seal of Zilargo, I use a more ornate version of the penrose triangle. I think it works rather well, encompasing both the idea of the Triumvirate and the somewhat paradoxical nature of the Zil.

04-26-07, 01:11 AM I dunno, that seems a bit too simple and minimalist. Given Sivis is already responsible for a lot of common dragonmarked house structure, it seems to me that they would quite likely be the template for dragonmarked crests for one - as such a traditional crest would probably be more appropriate, given that others are probably gnome-influenced.

Maybe that could be a `shield' or part of a shield being supported by a badger (friend of the gnomish race) and whatever magic beast Sivis is represented by (Cockatrice, isn't it?)

It'd be a good one for the Triumvirate or Trust specifically though.
