Daydreamer 04-01-07, 09:03 PM	In the EBS it says that members of the lesser species ran from the battle of the god like combatants -Rakshasas and dragons presumably. What lesser races where there? Giants? o0 When did humans/elves/dwarves start to 'exist' and then about what time did there communties build up. Human beings are from sarlona-so Sarlona must have human communities going back at least as far as the Daelkyr wars. Basically when did these races come into being, and when did they come into there own? And what sort of human legends might be found regarding these powerful combatants of the past.
CaptainDakar 04-01-07, 09:26 PM	Don't quote me, but I believe one or more of the books stated that while the races as we know them existed, they were far too primitive to truly be aware of the world around them. Think early Neanderthal frame of mind, or perhaps even earlier. There wasn't much in the way of history, scholars and all that fancy stuff we take for granted. I would even go so far as to presume that oral histories common in primitive cultures would have been forgotten as the races slowly evolved into the present day creatures, their original languages no longer in use, though perhaps their legends would have been preserved in a different manner. Similar to common legends in radically different cultures in our early history. And in this I just speak of before creatures were more aware. I don't believe other species were truly intelligent until the Age of Giants (And the tutored slaves of the giants), aside from dragons and "demons".
SSj3goblin 04-02-07, 09:39 PM	I tend to go with that interpretation, the "common races" were hiding in caves and forests, where the Demons and the Dragons were not fighting and/or holding power, with the humans on sarlona (homeland of the couatl), dwarves in frostfell (they were probably left alone, since I fail to see how dragons or demons would want power over such a wasteland), elves and giants in Xen'drik and Gnomes, halfing and goblinoids (and orc) on Khorvaire.
Evilmonster 04-03-07, 02:10 AM	That's more or less my take on it as well. Most of the lower races in the Time of Demons were figguring out that "Fire Hot!" and wacking your neighbor with an ox's jaw bone was a really good way to keep him outta your stuff. Maybe the elfs had this idea that putting round things under your load made it easer to pull. And the giants had probably worked out the whole writing on clay and living in a house you made thing by then. Maybe every once in a while some dragons or demons would herd off a group of humans, give them some pointy things and point them at the "bad" guy, but mostly they hid from anything bigger than them and went about their business.
UnderworldLord 04-03-07, 10:25 AM	In RoE (I think) indicates that there are fiends trapped under the ice. Also, why would you want Frostfell? Because of Risia manifest zones.
Ryoden_Anariavas 04-05-07, 11:29 AM	One of the things that I noticed was that the three races that are geneticaly close enugh to interbreed are the elves orcs and humans and that they are from the three main continents so somewhere in there past they probably came from a common ancient race. the one continent that does not have any of those three races currently in residence is Argonneson.(yes I do remember Seren) Maybe the first dragons of Argonneson created a race of beings that would evolve into the perfict race to serve them. Unfourtunately when the war started they were forced to but the project "on the back shelf" and in order to protect them they were put on Khorvare Sarlona and Xendrik where they evolved into the three races we know today. What do you think?

What do you think? This makes great good sense. I imagine that the proto-humans (roughly analogous to h.heidelbergensis or archaic h. sapiens) evolved on Sarlona and durring the AOD and early AOG, a potion of the population migrated to Khorvaire eventully leading to the development of Orcs and the dwarves (who speciated further due to their extreme isolation in the Mrorish mountains). The mainline of the species stayed on Sarlona and gave rise to humans while the giants, while exploring, took a portion of the population back to Xen'Drik which would eventually be bred to create the elves and the drow.

Or they were created by the three progenitor dragons (probably Eberron). Creationism is quite viable in D&D, especially with the dragons, the Quori and the Daelkyr around...
