| Slayen12-03-07, 09:53 PM | there are a few paragraphs on them in Dragons of Eberron |

I suppose I'll have to use the Valenar as inspiration; perhaps more heavily armored, given their chosen enemies, but perhaps a little less elite, as they don't get as much battle experience. Maybe typical warrior having a breastplate, using mainly lances and bows, and perhaps each individually around level two or three. |
| Cuaglar12-04-07, 09:29 AM | Since my last posting, I've bent my mind towards the task of envisioning what the Draleus Tairn should (or might) be like, so now I give to you: Cuaglar's Take on the Draleus Tairn Since they are part of the Tairnadal at large, they have the same religion as the Valenar (the Spirits Past), and have a fondness for their Xen'drik-bred warhorses. These fast steeds are also an edge against the swift-flying dragons. However, from there the similarity between the Draleus and the Valaes Tairn stop. The Draleus Tairn are focused nearly completely on the art of fighting dragons, while the Valaes Tairn fight anyone they feel is worthy. To start with, the priests of the Draleus Tairn have a large amount of power and authority, as it is they who determine nearly the entire life of their people. Because only they have access to the Spirits Past, they decide on a Dralear's birth which ancestral hero inspires him or her, and thus which dragon he is to specialize in slaying, as the hero did in ages before. The warriors of the Draleus Tairn are divided amongst which dragons they are destined to battle, and dress accordingly. For example, those whose sphere is gold dragons typically wear yellow armor and clothing, with lots of gold jewelry, and those who fight green dragons wear primarily green, with black undertones. The elves who fight gold, silver, and red dragons (Verai Neruth, Verai Vasail, and Verai Tenda respectively) are highest in authority, privilege, and respect, as they must contend with the most powerful dragons, and thus are the most highly skilled and trained warriors of the Valaes Tairn. Below them are the bronze and brass slayers (Verai Ferrath and Verai Seddastre), then so on down the scale, so white and black slayers are at the bottom. While the Draleus Tairn can be any class, more often than not they tend to be rangers, focusing on ranged combat with dragons as their favored enemy. Those who qualify usually take up the dragonslayer or dragonstalker prestige classes from the Draconomicon. They can also take the Dragon Totem feat detailed in the ECS, but instead of representing the patron dragon's protection like it means for the Serens, the Dragon Totem feat represents specialized protection granted by their patron ancestor. |
