I recently found myself wondering whether the region of Khyber beneath the Mournland is also subject to the effects of the Mourning. While on the one hand, I gather that Khyber is not strictly in the same plane as the surface (as opposed to merely being a geographical feature like more conventional underdark settings), on the other hand, if you can walk into Khyber why can't eldritch radiation flow into it? If Khyber is not effected by the mournland, does it represent a 'safer' place while exploring (go through mournland to get to Khyber location of quest, heal up before leaving Khyber and then try to get back out of the mournland)? If Khyber was effected by the Mourning, what happened to the aberrations and fiends that lived there? Normal animals and people died or became mutants, but your average khyber-spawn left mere mutation behind millenia ago. Oh, and are Khyber shards mined from that area of Khyber any different from other Khyber shards, potentially a nasty surprise for some elemental binder...

If your choice is between the Mournland or Khyber you may as well put your head between your legs and kiss your a:censored: :censored: goodbye.

Seriously though i would rule that the Mourning is a surface only effect. of course theres nothing official on it and if you want to make the mourning seep into the underowrld i can see some interesting plots being formed.

Khyber is a slightly different plane anyways--it's just one that you can reach by spelunking.

And it's deep too--going into a cave isn't going to get you there, you have to go really, really, really deep.

"Sure you can heal after you go far enough down. Now I need everyone to make a listen check. Ok good rolls everyone, seems that you can all cleary hear the sounds of something chewing, and your cohort Bob screaming, then suddenly ceasing as you hear a crunching sound like a melon being bitten n half in a single bite. Ok now on to casting those healing,....oh...you want to return to the surface? Well ok....but we're going to need a few more rolls."

ROFL. I would probably take it the same way WarlockDa. Let them make ths choice of going back up.

As for the question: I think that depends on how you fill in the day of mourning. I'd probably link it to a catastrophical error after Cyre tried to protect it's own nation. I doubt they'd protect it against some terrors from underground, iow Khyber. So in my world it's probably just a surface effect. However both options are possible offcourse.
