Maps and Distance in Eberron [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-01-07, 01:24 AM Is there an actul map with the correct distance on the legend? The map of Breland has a distance on the map of 0 to 1000 but the distance on table 1-2 in the Explorer' s Handbook says that the distance of Sharn to Wroat by Lightning Rail is 212 miles. If you hold a ruler up to measure the distance from Sharn to Wroat and then see the distance on the legend it turns out to be over 500 miles. How do I track overland movement?

Any answers?

06-01-07, 01:37 AM i've had a similiar problem, the feet per round of the lightning rail calculates to be 21mph but according to the paragraph on the previous page it's 30mph.
I think eberron just has a problem with maps and scales...

Anywho, the numbers for distance and population in the ECS are wrong. This is an admitted fact. The setting was originally designed as being 10x smaller than it is now. Somewhere along the line of the ECS getting put together, somebody accidentally stuck an extra 0 on the scale, which greatly increased the size of the setting.

The numbers for distance and population in the ECS, however, are still based on the smaller scale. All maps after that used the inflated scale, which has become the actual scale for the setting, so you need to multiply the distances and populations by a factor of 10 to fix it.

As for the problem the explorer's handbook... well, use the whichever speed and distance is more appropriate.

(On a side note, my thread on population density is published amounts, so Five Nations for the Five Nations' areas, ECS for populations and other nations' areas.)
