| N3palm08-20-07, 04:10 PM | Well from the 4E thread about Eberron sprouted speculation about the Planetouched (mainly the Tiefling and the Aaisimar) in Eberron. Then Keith (Hellcow) came with suggestions about Coterminous Planes. That, when a plane is coterminous, planetouched children can be born, and are born. Aaisimar when a good plane is coterminous, tiefling when an evil plane is coterminous. I very much liked this idea (and I know there is coming information about the planes of Eberron soon) and I want to make it even better, make it good, usefull and campaign worthy (especially since someone in my group wants to play an Aaisimar). He (the player) came with the comment that if there are a group of planetouched (being that once per ten years the good plane is coterminous) that they'd maybe want to group. Now I'd like suggestions. I'll be working on this myself, since I find it interesting, but I'd like some more views on this. If they would group together, would there be like, villages or would it be more like some kind of chinatown in a city like Sharn. Or maybe you think there aren't/wouldn't be enough planetouched to do something like that. I hope you share my interest in this so that maybe we can make something nice out of this, even if its small. |
| Remmster08-20-07, 04:31 PM | For another explaination of Planetouched that just crossed my mind, regarding the tiefling, think about the Half-Daelkyr presented in Magic of Eberron - given they demons bound within Khyber or dragonshard items/artifacts (you name it) or even possession of hosts via channeling, it also offers a lot of possibilities to give birth "randomly" to planetouched or various crossbreeds. Anyway, to form a certain kind of own town district, it would actually take way more than just a handful. Even Sharn just features certain ethnical districts for the major (eg standard player) races, the closest non-typical corner would be made up of goblins. I think it's better to fill in planetouched with other minorities in big cosmopolitan places, like Khyber's Gate in Sharn along Droaamites, or in Droaam itself for that matter. If you place a village consisting primarily of planetouched somewhere, it is most likely the inhabitants are true-breeding and the settlement most likely existed for some time, or if not, there was a very good reason for a rather small number of people to band together for themselves somewhere. Then again, if you don't have a background of persecution like it was with werewolfs and to some degree, shifters due to that, and you don't have a big migration movement (out of industrial reasons, mostly), it's hard to explain "chinatowns". Better put them in the niches among other half-humanoids where they can easily blend in and rather form a patched up group with other somewhat-touched beings. Or, in places like Sharn, don't even do that and fill them in anywhere in the normal society. Crime syndicates of course work well, but with the cotermination-theory, a planetouched could appear in even the richest household.(Though it is possible that someone who has to watch his reputation might dump a "mutant child".) |
| Wizardman08-20-07, 06:18 PM | I am starting to wonder about which planes might produce which planetouched. With nothing concrete to work on, I am operating under the assumption that alignment-based outsiders in a given plane means that said plane can produce aasimar and tieflings. Aasimar: Fernia, Irian, Lammania, Shavarath, Syrania, and Thelanis. Tieflings: Dolurrh, Fernia, Mabar, Risia, Shavarath. |
| Alex_08-20-07, 07:17 PM | There's also precident for planar interaction influencing the nature of the Material Plane and its inhabitants in obvious ways: Manifest Zones. Sharn, with it's strong ties to Syrania, could be where a larger percentage of Air Planetouched are born and congregate. The Shadow Marches remain tied to Xoriat, and the influence of the plane already warps the plants and animals living there, so having some influence on the Human/Orc clans and tribes isn't unthinkable. Amongst those devoted to the Gatekeepers, such beings would probably be considered tainted and killed on site. However, amongst the other half of the population who follow the Cult of the Dragon Below, they could be seen as blessings and examples of the powers that can be bestowed upon those who worship the creatures trapped in Khyber. Aerenal, being tied to the Irian plane could result in a larger population of Aasimar being born there. Being creatures simply oozing Good and positive energy, they would be very useful in Aerenal's crusade against Negative Energy Undead. The Gloaming is tied to Mabar, the endless night, which is an area of great interest to the Children of Winter Druidic sect, who might intentionally concieve or give birth in or near the region in the hopes of creating the number of Tieflings or similar plane touched creatures as part of their goal to bring on a cataclysm that will cleanse the earth, while simultaneously producing beings that would be able to survive it. |
| N3palm08-21-07, 03:10 AM | Wow, nice, thanks you all :) Remmster> so you're saying there wouldn't be enough planetouched to create their own neighbourhoods and maybe enough to create a really small village but they would need a clear reason to do so. Thanks, thats around the lines I was thinking a little. Wizardman> this is interesting too, because unlike letting every plane have its own touched, this is much simpler (no creating 11 new races :P). I think I would remove Fernia from the Aaisimar list, although it might be interesting to have some planes have an effect on both. Alex> I love this suggestion, about the manifest zones. Especially with the Children of Winter and such trying to create Tieflings on purpose. It's a great way to incorporate the Planetouched into different cultures. I'll be using this. Thankt for the help! |
| OneWinged4ngel08-21-07, 04:39 AM | That, when a plane is coterminous, planetouched children can be born, and are born. This is not a new idea. In fact, one of my friends played an aasimar whose mother gave birth in an Irian manifest zone quite a few months ago. Specifically, the mother had failed to birth an heir and it was hoped that in the presence of the manifest zone of positive energy she would suffer no more miscarriages. And that's one idea right there ;) |
| Remmster08-21-07, 06:19 AM | Aerenal, being tied to the Irian plane could result in a larger population of Aasimar being born there. Being creatures simply oozing Good and positive energy, they would be very useful in Aerenal's crusade against Negative Energy Undead. Since you mentioned that, here's a random thought - what about the Silver Flame? It's basically a pretty divine and positive force too, though not specifically tied to any plane in particular (if I haven't forgot something, that is). Following that theory, do you think it would be possible that the Flame could give birth to an Aasimar, in contrast to Tieflings coming out of the Demon Wastes? |
| N3palm08-21-07, 07:38 AM | Here's what I've written so far for my campaign, I've gone with planetouched being born by coterminous planes, but I've kept all other explanations as folklore or superstition. I still think Planetouched should be very rare, maybe as rare as paladins. So I tryed to keep the possibilities at bay a little. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Planetouched The mysteries and answers around the tieflings and the aaisimar In Eberron, planetouched children are born when a plane is coterminous. This does not mean that, when a plane is coterminous, all children are planetouched, it is still very rare. Also within the strange manifest zones around Eberron planetouched children can be born. The different planes bring forth different planetouched. This is most found in their character, but sometimes also in their appearance. Some cultures migth express interest in certain kinds of touched. All kinds of folklore surround the planetouched, some are mere fairytales, some hold truth. But little people have knowledge about the planes and even less about the touches and for most the planetouched remain a mystery that can be looked apon with care or cation. Daanvi: In the very rare occaision that this plane is coterminous ánd a planetouched child is born, it will be an Aaismar. His character may reflect the perfect order of his plane. Some communities and superstitions see the birth of such a child as a sign for something bigger or link it to the Prophesy. Dolurrh: The planetouched born when Dolurrh is coterminous are Tieflings and they might be the darkest of their kind and relfect the pure emptiness and death of their plane. Some think children born this way bear the spirit of a passed, someone who managed to escape Dolurrh this way. And depending on the community is greeted good or bad into the world. But the heart of a Dolurrh Tiefling is most certain tainted by evil. Fernia: Planetouched linked to this plane may be both Aaisimar and Tiefling. Children born in this period may reflect the eternal burning of their plane and might be agressive, passionate or warm and pure. Their appearance can be influenced too by Fernia, fire red, flowing hair or bright eyes are examples. Also some of the Silver Flame believe these children are touched by the flame and not the plains. Irian: The plane of Eternal Day’s coterminous periods bring forth Aaisimar. These Aaisimar may be less lawfull then their Daanvi cousins. Still, they reflect the positive energy of Irian, but more in passion then in order. They can also have more of a bond with nature. Some druid sekts have expressed interest in these planetouched and other rumors tell of women giving birth in manifest zones so that their children might be touched, even a little by the plane of Irian. Kythri: In contrast with Daanvi, on the rare occasion that Kythi is coterminous it brings the opposed planetouched to the world, Tieflings. They reflect the chaos of Kythri in their characters, being free of law and order. Not necessarily evil, but certanly not lawfull. Still, children born like this are linked to superstition and folklore, like the Daanvi Aaisimar. Mabar: Planetouched linked to the plane of Mabar are born a Tiefling. They may be dark like their plane, negative and shrewing the lighter side of life. They also migth be born into darkness, since certain cults and sekts or even the Lords of Dust have a keen interest in these children. They also can be in tune with the clear night sky and the beauty of shadows. Risia: Like Fernia, children touched by Risia can be both Tiefling or Aaisimar. Their character may be like the endless frigid planes of Risia. Coldhearted, ruthless, emotionless or sturdy and intravert. They may be pale in appearence, with colorless hair more common among them or even cold in touch. Shavaraht: The plane of eternal battle brings forth both Aaisimar and Tieflings. Werther it is the first or the latter is believed to be caused by whom holds the most territory on the plane, the archons, the devils or the demons. But these planetouched might also be marked by internal battle between good and evil, lawfull and chaos. Syrania: The ones touched by the Azure Sky become Aaisimar. They hold the goodness of their plane in their characters. And sometimes this brings sarrow, sometimes it brings happiness to both te community and the Aaisimar self. Touched might be born into the sadness and evil of the world and see all its horrors, this can influence the character, and also become sad about the state of the world. It is as rare to come by such a pure heart as it is for the plane to be coterminous. In some more religous communities like Thrane, or believers of the Host or the Six around Khorvair, the touched aren’t believed to be touched by the planes but by the gods or the flame. The cults of the dragon below might believe (or hold truth about) the tieflings being touched by Khyber itself. Some druid sekts, like the Children of Winter and even some of the Ashbound have shown interest in the Tieflings as manifesters of natures power. The Gatekeepers treat the touched with caution or even hostility, as they try to keep the powers of the planes, especially the evil ones, at bay. The Tieflings are more feared then the Aaisimar, but even those touched can receive hostility from a Gatekeeper. Most people don’t know a lot about Coterminous planes, even less know that a touched child is born in these periods. All kinds of tells en tales circle these special children, but also a lot of people don’t know about the existence of touched. One of the most misguided tales is that a planetouched is born when a women is touched by a devil or angel. Some fathers have left their houses and families because his child was born a Tiefling. And both the Tiefling and the Aaisimar are still believed to have fiendisch or celestial blood in some regions. But in all the mysterie surrounding the touched, it is not strange to believe these things, they could even hold some truth. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Maybe you guy's have suggestions or changes when you read this. I would certanly like to hear them. |
| N3palm08-21-07, 07:50 AM | The player thinks Fernia and Risia shouldn't bring forth Aaisimar, but I think it's interesting in combination with fire being pure and a certain symbol for good. And it's also that way to keep things a bit balanced, so there are an even number of planes creating Aaisimar and an even number creating Tieflings. |
| Daemon_Maior08-21-07, 10:01 AM | and another thing, N3palm and myself(the player mentioned in above post) had a conversation about when the the plane should be coterminous for the child to become planetouched. I'm of opinion that it should be when the child is conceived rather than the day it's born, since the child will have already been a life-form for around 9 months by the time it's born. it makes no sense to me that a child should spontaneously change its type the day it's born, since AFAIK there's no form of polymorph spell happening when a plane is coterminous. |
| The_Gimp08-21-07, 10:53 AM | I think that Fernia and Risia should be Fire/Water Genasi and not Aasimar/Tiefling. Would make more sense than the latter in my opinion. |
| N3palm08-21-07, 11:01 AM | What we also have decided now, is to incorporate the other two Planetouched, the Chaond en the Zenythri. We modified them a little so they can fit nicely next to the Tiefling and the Aasimar. Chaond: As written but, Rage 1/day instead of Shatter And ability modifiers: +2 Strength, +2 Dexterity, +2 Constitution, -2 Intelligence, -2 Wisdom Zenythri: As writen but, Calm Emotions 1/day instead of True Strike And Ability Modifiers: +2 Intelligence, +2 Wisdom (they normally have no ability modifiers) And now I'm going to adept my article a bit to these two new planetouched. I'll edit my post later on with it. |
| bykov108-21-07, 11:04 AM | I think that Fernia and Risia should be Fire/Water Genasi and not Aasimar/Tiefling. Would make more sense than the latter in my opinion. Agreed. This would open the avenue for all genasi. You also have the Choatic & Lawful Planetouched, as well the remaining cast of characters. However, the Aasimar/Teifling I would believe would be the most common. Bykov. |
| N3palm08-21-07, 11:35 AM | Now, I've adjusted my piece so that the Chaond and the Zenithri have their place too. On account of the Fernia and Risia thing, I like the idea that the character of the planetouched is influenced by the plane they've been touched by and both Fernia and Risia have great potential for that kind of thing. Also, since the Eternal Day and the Eternal Night are only coterminous one day in ten years, I think it's fairly balanced. ------------------------------------------------------------ Planetouched The mysteries and answers around the planetouched In Eberron, planetouched children are born when a plane is coterminous. This does not mean that, when a plane is coterminous, all children are planetouched, it is still very rare. Also within the strange manifest zones around Eberron planetouched children can be born. The reason why planetouched are born within these conditions is still quite a mystery with two sides, one being that it is caused by the mysterious powers of the planes themselfs others support the theory that it is its inhabitants. Also the plane needn’t to be coterminous for touched to be born, it maybe the conceiving during a coterminous period that caused the forming of such a child. But on the other hand, there are cases of women giving birth in manifest zones to bring a touched child into the world. The different planes bring forth different planetouched. Irian: The plane of Eternal Day’s coterminous periods bring forth Aasimar. They reflect the positive energy of Irian. They may be good aligned and purehearted. The manifest zones of this plane have a good amout of superstition surrounding them. Rumors of women trying to give birth on these places especially so that their children migth be touched, if even a little by the positive energy. Kythri: In contrast with Daanvi, on the rare occasion that Kythi is coterminous it brings the opposed planetouched to the world, Chaonds. They reflect the chaos of Kythri in their characters, being free of law and order. Not necessarily evil, but certanly not lawfull. Still, children born like this are linked to superstition and folklore, like the Daanvi Zenithri. Risia: Like Fernia, children touched by Risia can be both all different kinds. With the mysteries surrounding the planetouched it is impossible for false information not to be accepted by the masses. But even scientists who studied the touched know little. All kinds of tells en tales circle the special children, but also a lot of people don’t know about the existence of touched. One of the most misguided tales is that a planetouched is born when a women is inseminated by a devil or angel. Some fathers have left their houses and families because his child was born a Tiefling. And the Tiefling, the Aaisimar, the Chaond and the Zenithri are still believed to have Outsider blood in some regions. You can add to that the superstition about touched from Dollurh and other planes with special values and a lot more. But in all the mysterie surrounding the touched, it is not strange to believe these things, they could even hold some truth ------------------------------------------------------------ Adjustments to the other Planetouched Chaond: As written but, Rage 1/day instead of Shatter And ability modifiers: +2 Strength, +2 Dexterity, +2 Constitution, -2 Intelligence, -2 Wisdom Zenythri: As writen but, Calm Emotions 1/day instead of True Strike And Ability Modifiers: +2 Intelligence, +2 Wisdom |

I would certanly like to hear them. Impressive work ! In Eberron, knowledge of the planes, or some planes, are way more common than in standard D&D. I have tons of example for you. Remember, invasions from Xoriat and Dal Quor shaped the face of Eberron. Lycanthropes fled to Lamannia to escape the Silver Flame Purge. Feys from Thelanis come and go between their plane is coterminous to Eberron since the boundaries between the planes are thin and passage in either direction can occur rather easily even by 'mistake'. When you dream, your mind projects itself to Dal Quor. When you die, you go to Dolurrh. If you fly to high in Sharn, you enter Syrania. Sharn architects used the properties of the Syrania manifest zone to build their sky-high tower metropolis. The Gatekeepers made seals to keep Xoriat from being coterminous and defend them with their lives. Inspired tries to draw Dal Quor closer with their monolith while Kalashtar seek to push it away. The Undying Court is powered by Irian energy. Blood of Vol cultists formed a large community in Lakeside/Karrnath in a manifest zone to Dolurrh. The Mournland may be a huge manifest zone of multiple planes. etc. Moreover, if people willingfully breed when some planes are coterminous, I think they might know some thing or two about the planes. Here are my thoughts on how the coterminous planes could effects either the birth of a human child or its conception. But first, my view on planar travelling. No matter in what position an orbiting plane is (waxing, coterminous, waning or remote), planar travelling is always easier from the orbiting plane to Eberron than from Eberron to the orbiting plane. Thus Outsiders are more likely to perform planar travelling than Eberron inhabitants which exlains powers like possession and channeling. Moreover, planar travelling is always easier inside a manifest zone than out. Thus the easiest way to travel between the planes is inside a manifest zone when its plane is coterminous. I personally think that each orbiting plane has manifest zones linked to Eberron. Therefore, when an orbiting plane is coterminous, outsiders (inhabitants of an orbiting plane) are drawn to do certain actions. While some outsiders have goals and schemes of thier own and either travel to Eberron, possess a victim or channel into a host, others simply seek to touch Eberron life in two different ways. The first is when 'Celestial' outsiders help women to give birth by channeling themselves into a willing woman. Children borned in this way become Aasimar. The second is when 'Fiend' outsiders possess a woman and makes her have sex with someone. Nine months later, children made in this way are borned as Tieflings. Rekko |
| N3palm08-21-07, 12:57 PM | Well, I'd like to keep the knowledge of it a little at bay, because I wouldn't want Eberron to be flooded with Aasimar, Tieflings and to a lesser extend Chaods and Zenythri. Not that this is in the hands of the people who would want to have such a child, since it's the mysterious powers of the planes and maybe its inhabitants that create the Planetouched. I just don't want it to be of too large inpact on the world of Eberron and its everyday life. Also the possesing and such is a nice idea, but I would like it more to be about the powers of the plane itself then its inhabitants, because then it would get a bit too close to the original idea, being that the planetouched simply have outsider blood. But maybe I should change the last paragraphs a bit so that it doesn't make the people look too ignorant (too strong of a word, I know) about the planes. [EDIT] Well, I've changed a couple of paragraphs. The first and the last one, so that they are a little broader on the question on how it is done and on the knowledge of the masses. the first: In Eberron, planetouched children are born when a plane is coterminous. This does not mean that, when a plane is coterminous, all children are planetouched, it is still very rare. Also within the strange manifest zones around Eberron planetouched children can be born. But a lot of things around the planetouched are still a mystery even to the wisest of sages. the last: With the mysteries surrounding the planetouched it is impossible for false information not to be accepted by the masses. But in all the mysterie surrounding the touched, it is not strange to believe these things, they could even hold some truth. |

| bykov108-21-07, 08:21 PM | If we're bringing genasi into it, fire genasi come from Fernia and the other three come from Lammania. Even could say a disproportionate number of Air Genasi are born in Sharn. Bykov. |
| Ohtar Turinson08-21-07, 08:54 PM | While I haven't bought secrets of Sarlona myself, I did flip through it in the bookstore not that long ago, and one thing that caught my eye was that they have an unusually high proportion of manifest zones- even roaming manifest zones- compared to Khorvaire. That could bring another interesting aspect to Sarlona it seems like- how the various people there deal with Planetouched. I didn't read enough to really get stuff to think on this with, but it could be interesting to examine. |

I'll be shure to check that out then If we're bringing genasi into it, fire genasi come from Fernia and the other three come from Lammania. Also, you could encorporate the genasi (from which book are they again?) into the setting this way, it might be interesting. |
| Ohtar Turinson08-23-07, 10:21 AM | Also, you could encorporate the genasi (from which book are they again?) into the setting this way, it might be interesting. I think the 3.x stats are in the FRCS and Races of Faerûn. There's a version at Planeswalker.com too. |
| N3palm08-23-07, 10:41 AM | Oh, I see those are insteresting too, and quite easy to include using the same method. But a question, are genasi originally from Faerûn, just like the Warforged are from Eberron or did the Forgotten Realms setting just include them in their core setting? I am guessing its the first, since the stats are only in those books, but just out of curisity. |
| Remmster08-23-07, 11:51 AM | I think they first appeared in Planescape, at least that would make more sense (the Aasimar and Tiefling definetely were very central player races presented there, that's for sure - though it's possible they might have already appeared in the old AD&D Manual of the Planes, but I dunno for sure without checking). At least, while the Genasi might still have originated in the FR setting, they have in no way a "signature"-status like the Warforged have for Eberron. It's more likely they're a) from Planescape or b) the Manual of the Planes. Anyway, I think for the FR, they first appeared in Monsters of Faerun and where then adapted into the FRCS as an encouraged player race. Their existence as a more central race at least makes sense in a way due to abundance of portals to several of the planes on Faerun. Someone beat me up correct me in case I'm totally wrong. |
| Ohtar Turinson08-23-07, 12:07 PM | Nope, you're entirely right. Tiefling and Aasimar were both created by Planescape- Tiefling was in the original stuff and then Aasimar were added later, as was the Genasi- planewalker's handbook I think. |
| Tempus4408-24-07, 04:58 AM | When it comes to Genasi i have a real problem with them being in the Eberron world. Born of elemental blood they should have a problem with the elemental binding (similar to the warfoged in the book Blood and Honor The War-Torn, Book 4), seeing as the elementals in these items are forced into the homes made for them. I'm not saying that they shouldn't be included in the setting but according to the Forgotten Realms setting they are proud of the semi elemental blood and abilities that go with it. Which should make them pretty peeved about their ancestors being bound into items and vessals. Sorry if this offends someone. |
| N3palm08-24-07, 06:15 AM | No, your quite right remarking that. But If you alter their origins, where they originate from the power of the planes instead of direct intercourse between humans and elementals, that should be a little bit less of a problem. And why couldn't there be persons or even a race that is offended by elemental binding, it could become interesting. And it is not as if Eberron is being flooded by Genasi, that would be quite a problem, the would maybe want their own country and sertanly would oppose to elemental binding. But such is not the case, they only excist in small numbers, well at least in my idea. In my idea they are more another embodyment of the elements, influenced by the planes, than direct decendants of elementals. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Well here's my part about the origins of Genasi, it's very similar to the planetouched, but I just love the idea :) The Genasi Like the Aasimar or the Chaond, the different Genasi also originate from the power of a coterminous plane. Although much rarer then the Planetouched, the Genasi have a much bigger aura of mystery and superstition surrounding them, mainly because they are so much different from their human parents. Because Genasi are the humanoid embodyment of the four elements and their appearance is very much influenced by this. Daanvi: From the Perfect Order Earth and Water Genasi sometimes are born. They reflect the patience and concentration of their kind. Also the lawfullness of the plane may be bound to their character or even appearance. Fernia: Fire Genasi are born when Fernia is coterminous or under the influence of manifest zones of this plane. Even more than planetouched influenced by this plane, are they carriers of the flaming mass of Fernia. Not only in their character but in their appearance, this varies from almost flaming hair to charcoaled skin. Irian: On a very rare occasion the Eternal Day also brings forth Genasi, Fire and Water. The Eternal day holds the positive energy of life and light, water being an origin of life and fire being an origin of light. The Genasi from this plane are not very different from their cousins but may be remarkebly more positive and with that more good than the others. Kyrhri: The Chaos of Kyrthi sometimes brings Fire and Air Genasi to the world. These Genasi are even more chaotic and free than their kind already may be. Like all Genasi they bear the elements on their outside. Lamannia: This plane brings forth all Genasi but Fire. Natures elemental power is clearly symbolized by these Genasi. They may hold more of a bond to nature in their characters and their appearance can be even more influenced by their element than others of their kind. Risia: Water Genasi are born when the Plain of Ice is coterminous. They hold the evergrowing mass of ice and cold in their body. Most Water Genasi are more soft and aquatic in their appearance but the Genasi from this plane may have more cold and ice influencing their outside. Their inside can be even more sturdy and cold then their kind already is. Syrania: The Azure Sky sometimes gives birth to Air Genasi. These can be more positive and sometimes even more calm than their cousins. Genasi of this kind can truly be an extraordinary person. A manifest zone can influence a Air Genasi to be born but truly special Air Genasi are mostly born from the rare conterminous periods of the Azure Sky. Sometimes Genasi can be outcasts, in other cultures (mostly the ones that are cast out by the humans themselves or cultures more in touch with nature) they can be more accepted, but always a Genasi is a truely extraordinairy sight. In areas with a known manifest zone, Genasi of some kind can be more accepted, since they may be more common there. Like the planetouched, they have many folklore and superstition surrounding them and like the touched science isn’t completely clear about their origins. --------------------------------------------------------------- (yay) |

Which should make them pretty peeved about their ancestors being bound into items and vessals. Sorry if this offends someone. Why would it offend? But I disagree with your assessment, since they aren't decended from the actual elementals, but rather from Genies, who (if you go by planescape, and probably FR too) often prove their mastery of the elements by enslaving the near mindless elementals of their element. That said, I suspect that if you use Genasi in Eberron it'd be the result of a planar conjunction or something like that, so maybe they wouldn't even make the connection. |
| N3palm08-26-07, 02:25 AM | And even if some or even all did make that connection, they woudn't really have the numbers to really do something about it. But I can see Genasi joining some of the druid sects or even lead small amounts of them, like the Children of Winter and most sertanly the Ashbound. Specificly the last is against all non natural, and even arcane magic, so they could plan to make attacks at or sabotages to the Lightning Rail or Airships. |
| Remmster08-26-07, 09:52 AM | Exactly, like N3palm said. A bunch of radical Genasi who plot to sabotage the lightning rail or free the elemental bound to an airship could make for a very interesting adventure or two. Even if the truth behind Genasi was more about the planes, why don't make someone tell a group of Genasi they're in fact descendants of Genies or other kinds of elemental-related creatures? It's easy to coax people into the belief of some "higher" heritage that demands proper respect. It's not difficult to tie in some threads into this which concern House Cannith, Lyrandar and the Zil. The themes you can exploit there range from vandalism to sabotage to intrigue/manipulation, and that's only the tip of the iceberg. There are dozens of other possibilities so can widen this hook, and one should never waste potential. When there's something I learned from my years of being a DM, "I don't know if that's a good idea because XY might have problems with that" is the wrong statement. It should rather be: "This is a good idea because there are problems tied to it" That's what you're looking for. So get all the conflict material you can get, it's what makes adventures interesting. |
| OneWinged4ngel08-30-07, 06:33 PM | A mechanical tidbit to emphasize planetouched of Mabar... the Tomb-Tainted Soul feat (Libris Mortis) would seem fitting, allowing them to benefit from negative energy as opposed to positive. |
| SwarthmoreDB09-04-07, 12:43 AM | For that matter, why not add the other planetouched creatures into it while we are at it; specifically, the ones from the Fiend Folio (e.g., Maeluth, Mechanatrix, and the Wispling)? One could state that the Maeluth and Wispling are created when dwarven or gnomish children are conceiving during the times Shavarrath is coterminous and all... although I find that somewhat hard to justify if Zilargo and the Mror Holds have few or no manifest zones connected to Shavarrath... As for the Mechanatrix, it's simple: he was conceived when Daanvi was coterminous. I have decided to not include the Shyft because it comes from the Ethereal Plane and not an Eberronian plane. |
| Herodot8309-04-07, 05:46 AM | Could someone please tell me where (in which book) to find the Chaond and Zenythri? I've read about them the first time here, but maybe I just missed them in the Eberron books or the planar handbook? Thanks, Herodot |
| SwarthmoreDB09-04-07, 08:16 AM | Could someone please tell me where (in which book) to find the Chaond and Zenythri? I've read about them the first time here, but maybe I just missed them in the Eberron books or the planar handbook? Thanks, Herodot Try finding them in Monster Manual II. |
| N3palm09-04-07, 10:06 AM | Yeah, they're from that book, but I don't really like that version, it seems to me that they ware done too hasty and and doent really match their counterparts the Aasimar and Tiefling. So I changed their stats (and in Eberron their origins). |
| ZeroSD09-05-07, 02:25 AM | In a Dragon magazine way back (297), they made some cool Law/Chaos planetouched, Cansin and Axani (And some new flavors of Genasi), and they did a waaaay better job than the MM2 law/chaos planetouched, which were pretty lame (Especially the Chaond). If one did use Aasimar/Tieflings, I'd recommend both planes making both, to avoid the way-too-common 'law=good!' assumption. Personally I think it makes a lot more sense for chaos to dabble in good more- Law sticks to the norms, chaos deviates in different directions. |
| Herodot8309-13-07, 03:32 AM | Hm, thanks for your answers... But I rather dislike MM II, that's probably the reason I don't remember much of it's content. I tend to think it has no really useful material, lots of senseless creatures, and yes, is to hastily written. Just my opinion. |
| N3palm09-13-07, 09:21 AM | Yeah, the material isn't really good. I think I'll look up that Dragon edition if I can, because even with some stat and etc. changes the law / chaos touched from MMII aren't really flavorfull and should really be like their counterparts the good / evil touched. So I'd imagene that, like the Aasimar and the Tiefling, they really should look like humans with small details that suggest otherwise (next to their spell like ability of course). And if I can't find that Dragon Magazine, there's nothing a little homebrewing can't solve ;) . |
