| iyaille12-13-07, 03:02 PM | I'm looking for ideas on an adventure around this event. DM's and players' feedback are obviously welcome ! |
| skrap-san12-13-07, 03:24 PM | A friend or relative participates in the race and is killed, then after a few days and the funeral he shows up once more. All stolen from this article (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/as/20070129a) thingie. |
| Wed12-14-07, 03:51 AM | The characters had been in charge of the security of one of the mounts the week after the race and just the day before, the beast is dead. Now they are in charge of the investigation to discover what had happened. |
| Nerdicus12-14-07, 02:28 PM | House Vadalis hires the group to head deep into the reaches( or any other area of your choosing) to find a creature that is said to exist that will make a perfect addition to the race. The creature( something of my design) is like a griffon but is a cross between a wolf and an owl. It has the same fly speed as a griffon but can only bare the wait of a small creature. or.... The players stumble upon a plot to interfere with the race and need to follow the clues to see who and why they are going to do this. |
| Kreistor212-17-07, 03:46 AM | The prize has been rigged with a bomb, plague, or other approapriately dangerous end. It has House Kundarak protection, which makes it almost impossible to steal. Revealing the threat to the public will result in the bomb going off. The PC's come to the conclusion they must win the race to stop the threat. BTW, one of the fastest flyers would be a dragon, though they turn like pigs. If a small character is in the group, a medium white, brass, or gold flies at 200'. If the PC's can convince one of those to help them out... don't undersestimate the appeal of proving one's superiority by winning a race against inferior fliers. A magebred pegasus would be a better choice, I'd think, especially with the improved maneuverability feat, if the race has a lot of twists and turns. But a head-to-head dragon vs. Pegasus match-up could be fun. When they get into a twisted tight section of the course, the pegasus nimbly dodges between the obstacles, but the dragon just flies head on into the wall, sinks his claws in, and then launches off in a new direction. Can the maneuverability of the pegasus in the corners beat the speed of the drgon down the straight-away? And much excitement was had by all. That would be something to model at home to ensure smart play by the PC's can win the race. If you design it on the hope the dragon will win, but don't prove it can at the table beforehand, you wind up killing your own plot. |
| Wih12-17-07, 09:39 PM | The first session of my Eberron game actually ran with the Race of the Eight Winds, actually. The players and most of the character were all new to Sharn, so it was a decent introduction too. The basic premise was that the party noticed an Assassin trying to kill off one of the contestants - being led by a Paladin though, the first thing they did was attempt to stop it. Things went downhill (or rather, all around-hill) from there, as the Assassin was running from the party all up down and around Sharn while still trying to kill his quarry, and the Party was attempting to follow. Like a weird chase scene. Worked quite well. |
| iyaille12-20-07, 09:36 AM | Thanks all, very nice stuff :) One of the PCs is a Boromar and someone in "The Family" is going to run the Race. I plan to kill this cousin during the race by a member of the Dask. The Boromar had planned that and posted lots of spy around the racetrack. The PC is one of the spies and see the murder... |
