| Onslaught[IT]02-24-07, 09:16 AM | Hello, I'm going to play with a Shifter Ranger on Xen'driks Expeditions, but I stumbled into a problem: I have no source for good shifter names, nor can I come up with a good one. Is there anyone that can help me with this ;)? |
| ChimericalWolf02-24-07, 10:20 AM | Well, in the ECS, it says they have rustic-y human names, so when I made my shifter, I just took an uncommon name that I might expect to find more often in more rural environments, and messed around with the sounds a bit until I came up with a simple name. For instance, when I made my Eldeen Shifter Barbarian, I took the name Matthew, turned the hew into en, and turned the t's into a k. So Matthew became Maken. Simple name for a simple nature. |
| Onslaught[IT]02-24-07, 10:33 AM | I'm from Brazil, so I'm not familiar with rural names in English. Use a rural name in portuguese would be... trash, at best. I always prefere using english-like names when playing D&D for some unknown reason. Maybe I just feel it fits better ;) The best name I could come up was 'Bok', wich isn't really a good name. He'll be a Covenant of Light Shifter Ranger, converted to the Church of the Silver Flame... |

| law02-24-07, 01:21 PM | Im playing a shifter named Zuka Bearclaw. But I think that using Gypsy style names can give the feeling that is about right in my mind so names like: Male Personal Names Chuvula, Fero, Frinkelo, Illika, Miya, Terkari, Vaya, Yakali, Yerko Female Personal Names Dunicha, Malilini, Oraga, Orka, Rosina, Savina, Saviya, Tekla, Tereina, Viollca Those I would think could be fairly common. Then there are the animal style names that could also work as part of or just as the name: Bah, Beh, Heek, Snik, Cheekk, Eep, Thriss, Ahou, Auw, Garoo, Bree, Breeka, Chree, Hrish, Lirr, Lith, Lyau, Slif, Swish, Gher, Grigm But these are just my ideas plus it helps that I have Gary Gygax's Extraordinary Book of Names to help look for certon styles and such. |
| Darth Syntax02-24-07, 04:21 PM | Like all things, Shifter names depend on region of Origin. Northern Eldeen Names Male Names: Broga, Gadrin, Khoiln, Negm, Ognim, Vraus, Benik, Skado, Namag Female Names: Skene (SKAY-nay), Magwene, Nedda, Ledri, Fradral, Neafra, Snyma, Lodghe, Faran Western Brelish Names Male Names: Shadroj, Raitn, Pratag, Kandrados, Udramo Female Names: Kadri, Perlani, Edramah, Vashil |
| Nuclear_Buddha02-24-07, 06:34 PM | Generally, I assume they've got similar names to everyone else in the nation they come from (with Aundairan naming influence still lingering in the Eldeen Reaches). The Five Nations book is a great help. |
