| ryanroyce05-21-07, 02:45 PM | I'm plotting an adventure that leads my PCs through the small border town of Sylbaran between Droaam and the Eldeen Reaches. What do we know about this place? All the ECS says is that the Brelish occupied it for a while during the Last War, but the Wardens of the Wood kicked them out and now they run the place. Anything else? Given its relative proximity to both Breland, the Gloaming, and Droaam, the plot potential for the place would seem significant. Has Hellcow said anything about the place in the old Ask Keith threads? If there's nothing official written, has anyone here used it in the past, either as DM or player? |

There's no official information besides the minor detail you mentioned (and maybe another unimportant tidbit or two hidden somewhere). It's one of the many places you're free to develop however you like, so start with whatever will make the adventure fun and work your way out from there. |

The climate is probably something like Illinois or Missouri - humid summers, cold winters. Farms spread north, fed by snowmelt from the mountains. Ranches spread east into the foothills. Sylbaran, population 1200, is at the center of a rural population of around 3600 spread around the foothills. Ten minor communities service the area. Wheat, barley and corn are farmed along the coast while ranching and animal husbandry farm in the interior. Mines in the Byeshk Mountains use Sylbaran as an export center for ore, typically sent to across the lake to Xandrar, Breland for processing and manufacturing. Being a border town has its advantages, of course. It repackages goods for shipment to and from Breland, Graywall and Aundair. (Don't forget: the Great Lakes system has 9 communities small town+ size along with a river running right through wine country). Houses Deneith, Orien and Vedalis are the top employers in the town, while a small contingent of Eldeen militiamen help Deneith keep out Droaam's more unwelcome visitors. Sylbaran's Lord Mayor, Jared Thal, has plans for his small town. He hopes to foster closer ties with Graywall and make Sylbaran the port for the unusual and rare goods that Droaam produces. He has gone so far as to send trade representatives to the Great Crag to meet with prominent tradesmen in the city. The populace is somewhat uneasy about the prospect but Thal knows that once the money starts to come in they won't particularly care. |

I've got some ideas of my own that I'll be posting soon, once I refine them a bit. |
