02-24-08, 04:20 AM I have been reading the chapter for they Cyre/mournland kingdom and I noticed or seemed to notice that the refugees of Cyre that went to Breland are thankful for having a place and status within Breland thanks to Boranel. The Cyre along with the other Cyre do not want to betray Boranels Kindness. That made me think that during the next war the Cyre will stand bye Breland throughout the next war. Well anyways thats what I think. So do you guys think that Cyre will stand bye Breland throughout the next war

02-24-08, 06:59 AM Cyrans are grateful to Breland and Boranel... but other Cyrans believe Breland helped destroy their homeland. Cyre's Queen stood to inherit the crown, and it was Breland (along with Thrane and Karrnath) which caused the war by refusing to acknowledge the laws of succession. At the time of the Mourning, Breland was at war with Cyre and had a major army inside its borders. Breland is a valid option for the Cyran Avenger's declared foes. Thus, the first problem, in a new war, is to establish which faction of Cyrans wins control.

Second, there is the problem that Boranel is getting older and might not live to see the next war. If Cyrans are grateful to Boranel, they might not have any reason to show that loyalty to his (uncharismatic) successors. And it is also possible that those successors decide they do not want the Cyrans, and will throw them out again: such a faction also exists in Breland. It also looks as if the succession in Breland will lead to civil war between king and parliament. In that case, New Cyre might take advantage of the weakened Breland and secede.

Following on from that statement, Cyre is grateful to Breland... but they would still rather like their own nation. There are plans to declare themselves independent. Some feelings of gratefulness might get in the way, but such feelings have little influence in politics. Cyre is, at this point, weak. If they declare their independence now, Breland will turn against them, their supporters will lose against the faction that does not want Cyrans in Breland, and Argonth will move to level New Cyre. There are not enough Cyrans to stand against Breland in anything but low-level guerilla warfare. So much of Cyran gratitude is cynical. They do not have an opportunity to rebel.

If the new war comes while Breland is strong? New Cyre will have to play careful. They are in Breland, their back against the Mournland and Darguun. They are small. No ally is within reach. If they do not support Breland, they are as good as dead. In that case, they will publically support the Brelish, though they might work secretly to sabotage them and end up with an independent nation.

The anti-monarchist faction and New Cyre are Breland's 5th columns, as it were. And BOTH are covertly supported by Aundair and Karrnath.
Of course, they can only do this so far - they don't want to get such groups incensed within their own territories!
