Ok I was just wondering what you guys use in your game for the nobility of the nations and dragonmarked houses.

These I know of:
Patriarch/Matriarch: Head of a Dragonmarked house.
Lord/Lady: Minor noble or moderate rank in a Dragonmarked house.
d': The prefix to a name of a Dragonmarked house member, possibly reserved for authority figures and actual members who bear the mark.
ir': A prefix to a name of a noble, used through out Khorvaire.
Warlord: Warlord replaces Lord/Lady in Karnnathi.
Lhesh: The prefix to a name by Goblinoids that shows leadership or authority. For instance, King Boranel would be called Lhesh Boranel in Darguun or among goblinoids.

Ok so what other titles and such do we have? I know the dwarves and goblins favor clans, and elves favor families, halfings favor tribes, as do orcs. But I have know bearing on what titles they use. If you don't have actually cannon though, let me also know what you use in your game.

On Dwarfs:
The dwarfs have a tradition of giving out names for
social statures and responsibility, they are named after the function they perform.

Head: The clan leaders.
The Feet: Deals with the logistics of the clan.
The hands: Defenders and workers.

I know it ain't much good, but who know maybe it will trigger someone else's imagination.

that's pretty kewl, I like that, maybe even change it a little like:

I am the Fist of Kunndarak, a member of the gaurds who work for the dragonmarked house.
I'm not sure about the Foot thing, that would be more of a duragatory term used for people. I personally if I where a dwarf and someone called me a "foot", I'd get pretty mad. I mean they are dwarves, we all know they got some ugly stinky feet.

I don't think dwarves would name their structure after boy parts... rather something like that:

The Sceptre: Leaders (I've also thought of "crown", but it's a bit too obvious)
The Coin: Organisation (pretty obvious, I think)
The Hammers: Craftsmen and Engineers (hammers = craftsmanship)
The Picks: Workers (as these are the traditional tools in mines, i.e. grunt work)
The Axes: Military (I think "axe" is obvious)
The Fists: Espionage (as the lack of tools shows that they're tackling problems with less... traditional tools)

Cheers, LT.

Well I hope they wouldn't refer to themselves after boy parts either. But I do like those ideas. Maybe with some changes I think your idea would work to.

However I think the Military would be split into multiple groups. Stave (spellcaster), Shields (Defensive military) being 2 I would like to mentions.

Well, that's nice - I guess people as disciplined as dwarves will have a rather regimented military with many different units and classification... Shields and Staves sound good. I wonder if they have a "crossbow" as ranged unit: On the one hand, crossbow doesn't sound that dwarvish... but neither does bow. What's a stereotypical dwarven ranged weapon?

Throwing axes?
Or you could just call them The Arrows.

Throwing axes?
Or you could just call them The Arrows.
Or "The Bolts". Has something archaic and more powerful, yet less subtle about it.

But perhaps we should do something non-dwarven...

I was thinking that Vaelenars could name themselves after different races of horses, but then my head replied "Hello I'm Legolas Mustang the brave" and it all had to be rebooted. Sadly I'm really not in any condition to make up cool stuff during my exams... But i would guess they used the same system as the Elves of Aerenal.
