| joela09-28-07, 04:24 PM | Starting next month, I'll be DMing a campaign set in the city of Sharn in Eberron. To separate my game from the myriad ones around me (I've belonged, at one point, in 5 different campaigns a month), I've decided to run a strict urban campaign that, at least for several games, ALL gaming will be set within Sharn. Okay, that's not unique. I do, though, want to use various published modules such as Goodman Games' The Adventure Begins; WoTC's Whisper of the Vampire Blade and Red Hand of Doom; Necromancer Games' Shades of Gray, etc., and adapt them into Sharn. I'm even looking into ways to adapt APs like Shackled City, Age of Worm, and Savage Tides. Same with stuff from published cities like Ptolus, Fingerport, Freeport, WLC, and Sanctuary. Has anyone else tried this? Many of these modules are either set in remote towns or are continent-spanning. If so, how'd you do it? I think playing in just one city offers plenty of adventuring opportunity while offering the PCs a chance to develop some depth beyond increasing one's level and acquiring more magic items. (My E6 rules effectively squash the former and, as for the latter, it won't be a big concern to the PCs, who'll literally get handed many of them by their employers.) Thanks in advance! |
| Need_A_Life09-29-07, 02:16 PM | Whispers of the Vampires Blade, Age of Worms and similar are easy to adapt to take place entirely within Sharn, though certain parts would need HEAVY re-writing. Savage Tides would be near-impossible to make work properly in Sharn(though it could work if one suspended ones disbelief enough). In Age of Worms, I only find it implausible that Dragotha would choose to reside within/beneath Sharn, though... having him actually be on display at the University (hidden behind nondetection spells, naturally) would make for a real Eberron action scene, as the heroes crash through the skylight to launch their attack, grap various priceless items on display to use against their foe and similar |

I'm already beginning to adapt Whispers by starting the adventurers chasing the wagon, be recruited by Breland, then move on to the rest of the adventure with the ziggaurat(sp?) either being an abandoned building, underground dwelling, or a tomb over at the graveyard. RE: Dragotha. Hey, I like your idea  |

Also you could have the badguys trying to usher in a permanent Manifest Zone to Fernia on top of Sharn. One of the first big bad guys you deal with is Tongue Eater, who is a half-orc/WereBaboon with a troop of murderous monkeys who destroy an Inn out in the middle of no where. Not sure how you would handle that at all - among ohter things, the presence of a Were-anything would certainly draw the ire of the Silver Flame. How you'd overrun an Inn in the middle of Sharn and no one notice is beyond me. Also, the first leg of the AP revolves around trying to get wands of Control Water to prevent the city from flooding. The badguys are using the wands as ransom. |

| Need_A_Life10-01-07, 05:37 PM | Shackled City is fairly easy as well... the volcano would be... *dun dun dun* the volcanic activity beneath Sharn... Well, it is there after all... --- I am seriously thinking of simply adapting the Star Trek campaign [playing in the Borderlands as mercenaries] I've been in for about a year now for Eberron and see if anyone notices... [Romulans become Zil etc.] Heh, get the PCs an airship (a modified mix between Whispers of the Vampire Blade and Voyage of the Golden Dragon should do the trick), but let them do so while stepping over a great deal of toes... Now, the plot hooks are just waiting to get ya, aren't they? |
