Under the Sea, Under the Seas... [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-02-07, 01:29 AM So, I finished watching the movie Splash with Tom Hanks and Darryl Hannah. That got me thinking about merfork.

I have also been thinking about Eberron's oceans, especially what is or could be underneath them.

Would there be some crazy civilizations underneath the waves that might be just as awesome as the ones in Sarlona and Khorvaire?

I would simply make (for now) an underwater world with the aboleths, merfolk, and some intelligent humanoids and elementals with aquatic subtype.

I'd also not include aquatic elves. At ALL.

What would you guys throw in?

Anyway Keith has hinted that in one of his drafts of the setting he had the entire undersea civilizations, kingdoms, and cultures mapped out... at least around Khorvaire... however somewhere along the line it was dropped out.

So somewhere there may be a Secrets of the Seas of Eberron brewing... though it'd need a snappier title. Or maybe WotC will keep that one under its hat forever, who knows.

04-02-07, 11:06 AM If Keith has already done the work, I of course defer to his set up, but I had an idea that the Barren Sea would actually be the home of warring locathah in the south and merfolk in the north. My first conception was that it would be a holy war based on the triad of Arawai, the Devourer and the Fury, with the merfolk favouring the Fury and the locathah Arawai, but I also thought that perhaps that inexplicably, thousands of years ago locathah cults of the Keeper flourished and took over, and have since grown into an entire culture based on warrior clerics trying to exterminate the merfolk. All of their negative energy is what caused the Barren Sea to get its name, killing most of the marine species and creating the areas of dead calm. To be a little different from most clerics, locathah holy warriors would eschew constitution and intelligence in favour of having high strength and charisma. There is very much a frenzied aspect to their training, where pure strength counts more than healthly methodology (because they can heal themselves if need be) and smarts.
