The monster on Page 31 is missing a very important (Ex) ability. Look it up in the source and adjust the Melee line accordingly.

Hmm. I just double-checked, and I don't see any important Ex abilities missing -- you're probably thinking of FP, which the module specifically points out the creature doesn't have. :) The encounter is a lot less fun with that ability in place.

We left out IW because it doesn't come up in this module (which is part of the point of these new stat blocks -- they're adjusted according to the actual encounter).

Feel free to PM me if you think I'm still missing something; I'd be happy to mea culpa and issue errata (in as much as the co-author of a module can!). :)

Yeah it's a pretty darn major part of the creature.

D'oh. Yes, the S (Ex) ability was left off inadvertently. In playtesting, I found that a combat-heavy group wanted the ability off, and a less Gnoll--er, combat-heavy group would want it in place, and missed getting that info into the module.

So, yes, take Iseelba's advice, and use that ability if your group isn't steam-rolling over the other combats.

Ug. Suckitude.

The FP though can totally break the game one way or another. So can S though.

Dangit.

So is S supposed to be there or not officially. Don't want my players to start complaining after if I don't use S and they face much pain and hurt.

And IW .... sigh... doesn't really matter huh?

Without the (Ex) ability it is a completely different monster and completely different CR. The original source has the (Ex) ability so I'd go with that personally.

My "official" stance is as written above, and what was originally intended to be written into the module (but inadvertently got left out). :)

If the characters are Gnoll-rolling over all the encounters, leave the S off. If the characters are struggling (which is entirely possible!), play the monster with the ability intact.

I'm really starting to wonder what the heck is being talked about. I've not known too many monsters in which leaving OFF an ability would make the monster harder :)

Well... Guess you have to play it and guess from what you encounter, huh?

But, yes. I can confirm that leaving an ability out makes the combat LOTS harder

Guess you'll just have to get yourself a DM, some Blackwheel buddies, and find out! :)

Harliquinn is at Origins if I recall correctly, so he should find out soon, if not already :D

I ran my game, and played WITH the ability active. They players pwnz-ed the thing easily....

I should have removed that S.... *sigh*... hehehe

Actually, that's not the only monster in the mod that gets stronger when you LEAVE OUT and ability.... So, hope he gets confused too...

Actually having played the mod, I now know exactly what everyone is talking about :)

Our DM played with the ability left out but we still did okay :) A few lucky dice rolls helped.
