According to the MM, gnolls only speak gnoll and need to use bonus languages or skill points to speak common. Right now, the campaign standards don't change this (even with some of the other arguable changes to the gnolls).

However, the fastplay gnoll seems to be listed as speaking common & gnoll. Do they gnolls start with common in Xen'drik adventures?

As an aside, the gnoll also has no skill ranks listed. Isn't there a minimum of 1 skill point per level (IIRC, the reference is buried somewhere).

The skills thing is odd. No idea what happened in the translation from us to the web conversion. We'll get it tweaked.

As for the languages--you may find quite a few nifty little tweaks on fastplay characters. In this case, he speaks common. After all, how's he going to take orders if he doesn't understand common :P

I thought it might be. Another player in my BWC group (who has a gnoll) was asking if that was standard. He doesn't speak common. Fortunately, my character does (the only member of the party that does).

The rest of us non-fastplay Gnolls in BWC would like to take advantage of the free training in Common if such is available. I couldn't find anything on the CS1.0 to address this... can we get a ruling O mighty Factionmaster? ;)

I second the request. Do Gnolls get free Common or not?

Thanks!

The answer in the CS will be "NO."

But if you have a Gnoll in the BWC, you will HAVE to take common. Many gnolls are potent combatants and better leaders. The command the loyalty and respect of their platoons--but they can't do that if they're unable to communicate with 90% of the world around them.

If you play a gnoll in the BWC, you must spend the points to take Common. You need to be able to give and receive orders and to communicate with your platoon and company.

Also: TANSTAAFL.

Well thats lame. My Drow Marshall speaks Gnoll and translates, I have no desire to waste my one skill point on a language.

Look! A rare smart gnoll!

(I'm very strange, with a 12 Int AND a 12 Cha.)
