Any word on the final ruling for Gnoll starting characters? Do they get the Humanoid HD, feat, BAB, skill points, etc.?

Gnoll characters possess the following racial traits.

Strength +4, Constitution +2, Intelligence -2, Charisma -2.
Size Medium.
A gnoll’s base land speed is 30 feet.
Darkvision out to 60 feet.
Racial Hit Dice: A gnoll begins with two levels of humanoid, which provide 2d8 Hit Dice, a base attack bonus of +1, and base saving throw bonuses of Fort +3, Ref +0, and Will +0.
Racial Skills: A gnoll’s humanoid levels give it skill points equal to 5 × (2 + Int modifier). Its class skills are Listen and Spot.
Racial Feats: A gnoll’s humanoid levels give it one feat.
+1 natural armor bonus.
Automatic Languages: Gnoll. Bonus Languages: Common, Draconic, Elven, Goblin, Orc.
Favored Class: Ranger.
Level adjustment +1.

My guess is that, for the purposes of this campaign, your racial hit dice will be replaced by class levels. In other words, you get all the benefits of the race (and the +1 level adjustment) except the HD, BAB, saves, or skills. Otherwise, you would not be a 2nd level character at the start, as the campaign standards state, but rather a 4th level character (once you "choose a class normally").

I seriously doubt they would give you 9hp, a +2 fort save, a +1 BAB, and 5x(2+Int mod) skill points for free.

This is not correct for the purpose of the Xen'drik Expeditions Campaign.

Please see the following threads for an explanation:

Treat the Gnoll Level Adjustment as more of a template than anything else, it just gets applied right over top of everything else. As described in the campaign standards and the threads above, you WILL get the racial ability modifiers and the natural armor bonus. You will not get any other HD dependant benefits such as additional saves, attack bonus, featss or skills. In Xen'drik Expeditions (the way they have these LA-based races set up) class level is the only factor that impacts things like feats, skills, BAB, and HP.

Hehe. Don't worry about it--I was even confused the first time I fell across it a few months back.

I just didn't want you to be the guy at my table that shows up with a 19hp Gnoll with +8 to hit and a +9 fort save at level 1. I hate to burst that bubble. But, we're all wiser now. ;)
