| Zemlach09-23-06, 04:32 PM | Recently I played Xendrik at DragonCon and had a fantastic time doing so. It was my first time sitting down playing 3.5 in such a manner, my first time doing so in the RPGA, and was wonderful to spend time with my friends. However inevitably I ran across something that I am finding disagreeable and would like some advice? In order to play in Well of Woe (ran by a fantastic GM), I had to play in a previous adventure. I chose to be in BWC, and played in "The Principle of the Matter". I was very displeased from the start of this adventure due to the DM's obvious unwillingness to run it. He openly stated that he did not like Eberron, had been pressured into volunteering, and wanted to get the adventure done quickly. He ran us through many sections with brief gloss overs, and barely any roleplay. While I disliked it, I was fine with dealing with it, however as a friend is about to run the same module it turns out that after my discussions with him it seems this DM at DragonCon not only glossed over things, but changed many story points, made up points in different areas, and skewed things to make the game quick and battle oriented. Eventually it ended up with me receiving a story object that is very unwanted, and I will not post it to prevent spoiler problems. So the question is this, is there anything I can do concerning this story object, any appeals process or person I can speak with concerning not having it affect my future gaming as it seems this is something that my character maintains throughout his career. In LG i was asked to run a Mod designed just to kill the players basically; i didnt want to run the mod but did anyways because the players wanted to play it. In the end 2 out of the group died but the players were happy and thats the point. The guy that made your experiance suck should be banned. |

Get a name, a number, and a brief description of the person if possible, and make sure the higher-ups hear about it. Otherwise, it could lead to more bad judges out there. Conversely, ALWAYS let the Senior GM of an event know if you've had a really awesome judge. They want to know both the good and the bad so they know who to keep and who to keep away. I feel for you, though. I've been given the short end of the story object stick in Mark of Heroes a number of times now, but it was never due to a bad judge or my actions. It was due to the other folks at the table. Anyway, good luck in getting that sorted out. I suggest you email the RPGA directly, but expect a loooong wait for a reply. I'm still waiting for a response to my character tracker issues from the start of the Mark of Heroes campaign. |

It is very hard NOT to get that one unless your group has someone specifically built for that sort of situation. everyone in my group got it. fyi - I was involved in a Crimson Codex adventure that was ran very similiar to how the OP experienced. Very hit or miss on these RPGA events |

Very hit or miss on these RPGA events I understand the OP's fustration. I have run the adventures (BWC and CC) and tried my best to make sure the players had a nice time. I know which Story object the OP refers to and it is definately not something you deserve if it's not your fault. But I don't know if anyone, and I don't think even the Faction Masters, can change your Story objects like that. Else people may come forth with fake sob stories just to get out of tight situations. My opinion, shun that DM if you can, report him to your Senior GM (as suggested above) and continue playing with the character and make it work. Treat it as a ...role-playing opportunity... *ahem* To the guy that played CC in the above post, being pushed forward blindly in that adventure isn't as bad in my opinion, just hope you caught on to whatever the GM tossed at you... :D And people wonder why when I am Senior GM and people start to volunteer to be GMs in the event, I actually reject some people... |

It was a bit rushed and there was one event that didn't seem to make sense in the presented context, though. Otherwise, I just figured the story object itself was due to the nature of the campaign. I do remember the GM we had (that and having his signature on my adventure journal), so I'll just try to avoid him if I play RPGA modules at next year's Dragon*Con. |
