| FaintestInkling03-28-07, 08:02 PM | Kiddoc, I tried to PM you, but you apparently have exceeded your PM quota!:) I am just about to start GMing a Xen'Drik Expeditions campaign for a Blackwheel Company group. My main question is, one player is very much interested in the Windwright Captain prestige class (from Explorer's Handbook). I cannot find anything which prevents this class from being legal for a Blackwheel character (i.e. it seems possible to meet the reqs and nothing essential is locked.) Before he commits to the character, could you please let me know if Windwright Captain will be legal? If so, does flying a Blackwheel Company airship or piloting a wind galleon hypothetically found in an adventure for a brief period of time count as "piloting an airship or wind galleon while in the service of House Lyrandar" or does he need to get that story object from a DM's Mark? We also had another general question. The campaign standards indicate that using an item creation feat for a permanent item allows you to buy it at 2/3s the cost. However, the Extraordinary Artisan blurb below states that it reduces the cost to "1/2" from "3/4." Does a character create permanent items at 2/3s the published cost or 3/4? Thanks a lot. Edit -- Actually a few more quick questions: the restricted feats include Metmagic Spell Trigger ... this refers to the feat from Complete Mage right? Not the artificer class's Lvl 6 supernatural ability? And can an artificer actually make use of his ability to make items with CL +2? Or does the restriction on making items with CL less than or equal to the less of character level +2 OR ranks in UMD -3 prevent this? (Since max. ranks UMD minus 3 would be character level.) Thanks again. |

Or does the restriction on making items with CL less than or equal to the less of character level +2 OR ranks in UMD -3 prevent this? (Since max. ranks UMD minus 3 would be character level.) Thanks again. 1) Spell Trigger: Yes the feat is restricted, not the artificer class ability. 2) Artificer Level: You use whichever is less. In the case of an artificer/rogue, the PC might have more ranks in Use Magic Device -3 than artificer class level +2, and thus the rule. So the CL of a 7th-lvl artificer with maxed UMD is 7 and the CL of a rogue 5/artificer 2 with maxed UMD is 4. |
| FaintestInkling03-28-07, 10:25 PM | I guess I could have directed most of those questions at any of the Factionmasters, but I figured the Windwright Captain one would be mainly directed at Kiddoc, so no slight intended against the other Factionmasters. Thanks, Skerrit. |

Thanks, Skerrit. Sorry gents, back from outerspace... or at least out of the country. Windwright Captain is certainly a legal choice. You should also keep your eye out for campaign cards and story objects that look to assist that class. Unfortunately, I can't make every adventure on an airship, so I can't promise some of those Windwright Captain features will get used every second. Nevertheless, I'm planning on allowing lots of access to the things surrounding it. |
