Straight Sorcerer or Dragonmarked Heir? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I've got a Halfling Sorcerer whom I've not played since before the 1.0 to 1.1 rebuild and I'm in two minds as to what to do. The original idea was to be part of House Jorasco, have the Mark of Healing, then take Favoured in House and move on to take levels of Dragonmarked Heir. Now I come to probably being about to play her, and levelling her up to 4th, I'm not sure if that's the best option.

Does anyone have any advice? Are the bits and pieces which would be given by the dragonmark and the PrC worth the loss of sorcerer-enhancing feats and caster-levels? I'm tending to think they might not be - but I'm not sure and I'd quite enjoy playing someone who was important (at least back on Khorvaire) and knew it!

I've never played a sorcerer, and I've not got a 'build' planned (probably a mistake I ought to rectify between now and tomorrow evening!) so general advice would be welcomed as well.

Do not take Dragonmark Heir with a spellcasting class.

Dragonmark heir is best suited to skills oriented characters, although it works adequately for any class which does not depend on class levels for power.

Take the spell Glitterdust! Oh wait...

I'm curious though, what direction did you take with your Sorc?

I went for Sorc 5 at level 5. I kept Favoured in House, mainly because it's cool.

I'll quite possibly re-tool that - and even the Least Dragonmark - at the level bump... Sieylianna was somewhat forceful in his denunciation of the wisdom of multiclassing Sorcerer and DMH. Although it would have been cool, it's perhaps more important in a campaign like this to be effective more than it is to be an interesting 'fit' with the flavour of the faction. I'm not sure. Perhaps I'll take some draconic-flavoured stuff - but then I'd probably have preferred to do that in CDX instead. Having a straight Sorcerer will be good, I think, as I've never played one so will give me better insight into how they work!

I looked into a spellcaster/DMH for a home game and it was just puny. I had a rogue/DMH for 11 levels in MoH and it worked out reasonably well. I gave up some rogue abilities, but my saves were much better and the Dragon Mark abilities were helpful for a rogue (Mark of Shadow).

I'm saving DMH for my Tharashk corsair.

Remember, you will need to take 3 levels so keep that in mind.

Only if you plan to further multiclass. 1-level dips are completely legal in XE. For example:

Fighter 8, Exotic Weapon Master 1, Fighter 11 is perfectly legal.

I think for prcs you really have to take 3 levels, but if you instead of EWM you had 1 lvl of Barb what you said is legal, but then you could only take levels of fighter until you put 3 lvls of Barb.

edit:unless Barb was favored.

I just checked the XCS again, and as written, you can dip PrC's. You only have to take 3 levels of a PrC if you take a level in any other class that you don't already have at least one level of.
