What would you do for a promotion? [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-03-06, 01:15 PM In my BWC game, one of my players has a marshal that is very focused on going up in rank. Noble birth, dragonmarked heir, favored in house, etc.

Upon learning that Sgt. Tragar is female, my sadistic streak showed itself. In my DM's mark, this character was asked to stay behind and speak with Tragar after debriefing their squad on a mission.

Tragar: I've been watching your progress private, you seem to have a very promising future ahead of you in BWC.
Private: Sir! Thank you sir!
Tragar: At ease, soldier. It might interest you to know, I'm in a position to recommend or bar individuals from promotion. (Moves closer and grins, revealing her canine like teeth).
Private: (Becoming nervous) Uhh, yes sir. . .
Tragar: I admire strong men with bright futures. . . you know, I'm past the age of bearing litters, private. There are commanders and troops in battle, private. . . I could see you as a commander someday - it would be wise to have me on your side before the promotion board.
Private: Thank you sir, but I prefer to advance on my own merit sir!
Tragar: Very well. (Gruffly) Dismissed Private!

I bet Sgt. Tragar was never envisioned being played that way, but man, it was too funny to not do. Besides, no organization is free from stuff like this. The players all thought it was hilarious, and had a good time prying what really happened from the marshal, lol.

So what would your character have said? Thank you sir may I have another? :weep:

It certainly was interesting watching the player squirm! First as he actually considered it, and second as he tried to think of a way to decline without making an enemy.

I think Tragar's days of harrassing recruits is over now, though. She's worked too hard to get where she is to throw it all away on fraternization!
