08-09-06, 06:49 PM I haven't seen any means of unlocking the Archivist from Heroes of Horror, which is a shame as it'd be a great fit for the Cabal. I had pictured a Wizard/Archivist/Mystic Theurge/Thaumaturgist who has a distinctly Lovecraftian aspect to him, calling up chaos beasts and gibbering mouthers against his opponents.

Can someone suggest a prestige class that would work in place of the Archivist? I'm looking for something that focuses on intelligence and divine magic. Thanks.

08-10-06, 12:41 PM The Alienist PrC from Complete Arcane might fit the bill.

It can be taken by divine or arcane casters. It has all Knowledge skills as class skills. It focuses on summoning, and applies the Pseudonatural template to summoned critters (very Lovecraftian, all tenacled and slimy). And if you are a cleric of the Dragon Below, you can get the domain that grants Augment Summoning for free and not have to take Spell Focus Conjuration!

The only problem is that you lose 2 Wis at 2nd level of the class. This can be minimized by starting with a good Wis, putting you 4th and 8th level bumps into Wis, and trying to get a Periapt asap, but it will still hurt.

Now I'm thinking of throwing Ur-Priest into the mix for a progression of Wizard/Ur-Priest/Mystic Theurge/Thaumaturgist. He's a lawful evil dwarf -- with an imp for a familiar, of course. With the Ur-Priest levels I'm just looking at getting Planar Ally without this character having to feel beholden to a diety -- there's too much ego present in this character for him to stoop to that.
