One of my players has an obscura mission that requires her to make an example out of a person by killing them, their whole family, and burning their house.

Another player has a mission to save one of the target's children.

The latter player saved the child by faking their death.

Should the first player fail since they didn't kill the child? I think the primary goal was to send a message, and after the three other bodies were mutilated, I believe the message was sent.

Thoughts?

It's a judge call. If no one knows that the child is alive, there is no way for the 1st obscura to know that the PC failed.

As a GM this is the level of detail i would require from either side to stop the other from reaching thier objective. Faking the childs death would, if done properly void the kill the whole family result, as one got away. Even though the death was faked (so the killer wont know the child is alive) and alot of people think the child is dead, they are not. As the faction master noted however, appearances do matter. Best keep the kid from ever poping up eh?
