Since I am not running my DM's Mark #4 again, I will go ahead and report what happened. If you have a DM's Mark you can report, post it here!

Ok. Meanwhile, back in Stormreach:

Xandrin Corvalis has been arrested (this ties into Covenant of Light #5) and rumors abound that the Cabal might have something to do with it. So the Cabal members have all been laying low, avoiding trouble. Instead of meeting at the Hand of Stalwart Reverie, they are called to a safehouse- the warehouse of the Silverpick Mining Company, where they check in with a handler: Theri Sandvail. Also arriving on the scene is a new associate of the CoS-- an exotic Sarlonan woman called Hyleera. She is an "expert" on Quori spirits.

As the story goes: a new section of prophecy has turned up that alludes to this:

"When the spirit of Kaberon is bound in the hand of Shadow, the greatest of the Brotherhood of Light shall fall. When this, the strongest link is broken, the rest shall follow himn into the clasp of destruction.."

Well, seeing as how Corvalis is already off the streets, it's just a matter of fulfilling the rest, right? Unfortunately, this "Spirit of Kaberon" is a rare spirit vestige- Although Binding spirits is not an unknown art in Stormreach, the exact seal used to summon and bind Kaberon is not well-known.

According to the dark library of Suroth Morellu, however, there is such a seal, located in a Quori outpost, hidden in some river caves about a days travel away. The mission is to get a copy of the seal. Secondarily, orders are given to obliterate the original seal (thus ensuring the Cabal has exclusive access to this spirit).

Right off the PCs figure out that the problem person is Hyleera-- she is secretive and evasive, and seems to know way more about Quori stuff than she should. She also carries a psionic crystal that used to belong to a certain Obscura member. Two of the Obscura are certain that she is a traitor. One Obscura is respobsible for bringing her into this plot. And a certain psionic giant would very much like to interogate her.

But for now, the party travels together to the Quori outpost, all hoping to bring back the seal, and then do away with the "expert" when it is more convenient.

So off they go.

We had some technical difficulties the second time I ran this, but in the first iteration, there is a river voyage, and an attack by giant wasps. In the second iteration, a psionic sahuagin attempted to pass Deondag's non-obscura mission to non-aligned party members.. and in one case was rebuffed entirely! I wish I had a story award for that. :) "EXCS16a -- Annoyance of Deondag"

Ok, so they reach the river caves which are guarded by a Sea-hag named Auntie Skorax. In both iterations, the party appeased the old crone with rations while they tried to get some clues about the area. In general this was successful. ( I was kinda dreading having to pop her death attack on people.. but it never came up).

Avoiding most of the bleeder encounters I had set up (some giant crabs and ethereal marauders), the groups found the most likely door into the sealed ruins. One group broke it completely down. In another group the strongest characters attempted to force it open, while a mischievous character whispered the password to open it.

Inside, they located lots of old Quori junk- dream-weaponry, a sleepers chamber used to communicate with Dal Quor, and a room I called the 'Flux Capacitor' (in an homage to Back to the Future). In the final chamber, they locate the seal.

This is where Hyleera's big betrayal happens: she reveals herself as a Yuan-Ti working for the Riedrans. Her Yuan-ti brothers (who have secretly been trailing the party) suddenly appear and close-in on the party and there's a big battle.

In both cases, Hyleera (having memorized the seal for her Sarlonan masters) attempts to use her psionic crystal to escape (it holds a charge of Dimension Door), but she is foiled. In one group, a clever thief pick-pocketed her minutes before she entered the final room.
In the second group, there was kind of a dramatic tussle over the crystal, with a back and forth disarming struggle that went on, eventually ending in a knocked out Hyleera.

In both iterations:
The Yuan-Ti were all killed, and Hyleera was returned to Cabal HQ for psionic interogation by Deondag.

Thanks for playing!

Awesome writeup and great game by the way! Thanks again and I look forward to your other games (BTW I still need to be set from 'pending' for the CoL game this weekend).

Gorebrute charge for the win!

The ironic part is that I'm finding my character to be less coherent the more I think about him. I might create a new character for the remaining Cabal modules of this chapter of the campaign (probably a nightbringer human druid or a gnome beguiler), in order to better fit with the idea and morals of the Cabal.

says the chaotic evil warforged barbarian.

*sigh*

If I wanted that I would have joined the fight club

says the Cleric of Questionable Alignment. What? I'm a nice guy! You see I have wands of CLW and will heal you...*under his breath* depending on the circumstances

EDIT: Oh wait sorry. The Union of the Clerics of Questionable Alignment just set in place a policy that bans members from forking out the material costs of curative. Something about it being against certain members religious beliefs. But I'll still heal you if you provide wands and scroll :angelhide
