| Ishorn06-23-06, 12:59 PM | Wow, I have never been the first to post on a new forum. I am really looking forward to the D&D campaign. I can not wait to hear more about this faction. Homer |
| Frobi-Wan Kenobi06-23-06, 01:41 PM | I'm really interested to see how having players of opposite alignments work at a table. My CE Drow Fighter is on an Expedition with a LG Aasimar Paladin of the Silver Flame why? |
| drDRFAUSTUS06-28-06, 12:23 PM | I wonder if they are going to include tips for how to deal with PVP problems. I assume that the goals will be similar to MoH games. But there is potential for some party - infighting here.... |

I will come down on that type of behavior at Gencon Indy like a ton of bricks (since that is the first place characters of various factions have a chance to sit at the same table). As to why at the same table it is your call or your factions background. Many good movies revolve around two enemies having to work together towards a common goal/item/place and then having to figure it out at the end. Dave C Somebody Nobody |

The behavior you describe can be "fun" for the player of the obnoxious character, but can quickly sour the event for other players. It's happened to me, and i've seen it to the point where players have left the table (the event, even) in disgust. |
| Skerrit06-28-06, 01:57 PM | Player vs. Player conflict is one of the biggest issues that I get asked about. There are several things to consider on this topic, as PvP means different things in a faction mod vs an expedition mod. 1) PvP in Faction Mods: PvP situtions seemly likely when everyone at the table might be evil, so how is this handled, especially when everyone might be from competing Obscura? Well, first off, you can't kill each other. When you become a full member of the Cabal (which all PCs do as of the beginning of the first faction mod) you are awarded some level of protection. Effectively all PCs are "Made Men" and can't be touched. Now this doesn't mean you have to save PCs who are bleeding out, or that you can arrange for someone else to be set up to take the fall for a crime. You just can't murder each other. If you do, they higher ups will find out about it and your PC is forfiet. You are execute painfully as an example to others. Now if you arrange a situation such that another PC is killed by an NPC, well that's just plain bad luck on that person's part. When you sit at a table, try to figure out who might also be in your Obscura (if any) so you know who might be your allies if it comes down to it. There will be more on recognizing fellow Obscura members without giving away your secret in the days to come. 2) PvP in Expedition and Delve Mods: First off, it's not a good idea for our PCs to mix with the others. They will want to kill us. That said, and given that this campaign actually has critical events that matter, many will want to mix it up in order to prevent another faction from succeeding. You can do that without killing each other. In fact, the Cabal would rather the PCs avoid exposing the Cabal's existance as much as possible. So if you pose as a member of another faction, you might prevent success (their success, not yours) by dragging your feet a bit, or being a bit bumbling, but DO NOT expose yourself or the Cabal. Now saying that, it is only polite that you admit your true faction to the players at your table as they muster. Avoiding springing it on them in the middle of play. Everyone likes different styles of play and some will enjoy putting their wits against yours in order to see how the critical events turn out for your table. However, other players hate conflict and you will ruin their time by having your fun. We all paid money to go to a big con and it takes a real donkey to screw five people out of four hows just so they can get some laughs. Be upfront and find the people who while want to play with you. We, as players of the Cabal of Shadows, have a huge responsibility. If this experiement in playing dark PCs goes astray and there are more complaints than positive comments we will never be allowed to do it again. Lets all be grown-ups and be respectful of others. | kiddoc06-28-06, 02:07 PM | 2) PvP in Expedition and Delve Mods: ... They will want to kill us. Greg Marks Cabal of Shadows Factionmaster Yes, yes we will. No seriously, Greg has a gift for these things, which is why he got the most risky of the Factionmaster jobs. He's 100% dead on about it being our mutual responsibilities (DM's, writers, and players) to agree to sit down at the table and game first, then deal with these in-character things second. I'm going to quote this over in the BWC forums because it's so eloquently stated. |
| ChristopherGroves06-28-06, 03:44 PM | It isn't that we will want to kill the cabal PCs ... you're just in our way. :P Seriously though, if I get any time to play another faction at cons, etc. this is the faction I think I want to play. I've got too much of a twisted streak to really be in the others. "Er ... yeah ... convenant of light ... yeah ... I'm playing a paladin ... right ... what god or religion you ask? Blood of Vol, naturally ..." |
| MerricB07-01-06, 04:24 AM | I'm rather wary of the players I know who want to play in the Cabal of Shadows. For various reasons, I'm definitely going to be the DM for our little group for this faction... Cheers! |
