| Lightblade03-18-07, 12:56 PM | Hey, all. I've been throwing around ideas for my warlock build in my head for a couple days, and i figured i'd put them down. It's not as complete as a standard build might be, so i figured i'd lay down the skeleton and see what people thought Race: Half-Daelkyr Ability Scores: STR 8 Dex 14 Con 14 Int 12 Wis 11 Cha 14 (was thinking about raising str and dropping cha by 2, but am unsure) Levels: 1) Rogue 2-9) Warlock 10-12) Hellfire Warlock 13) Beguiler 14+)Unseen Seer Invocations to consider: Eldritch Glaive, for awesome Melee Spiderwalk, because i hate webs Entropic Warding Brimstone Blast or Hellrime Blast, because I need it for Hellfire Warlock Voracious Dispelling or Tenacious Dispelling (counterspell at will) Flee the Scene Vitrolic Blast Chilling Tentacles Noxious Blast Feats i'm considering: Point Blank / Precise Shot (until I get the rod that effectively gives Precise Shot) Ability Focus-Eldritch Blast, for better save DCs Sudden Still: since unlike Dim Door, i believe Flee the Scene requires somatic Empower Spell Like Ability: Eldritch Blast Quicken Spell like Ability: Eldritch Blast (Mostly for Eldritch Spear goodness) *Shape Soulmeld: (Strongheart Vest) to avoid con damage from Hellfire The last one is iffy, as it seems to be legal by the rules as written, but perhaps not so much with the rules as intended. If any of you factionmasters think i'm cheesing the rules a bit and shouldn't try to do that, then I won't. But if people are ok with me feeding the devils of Shavaerath? with the souls of all the dead, living, and yet to be born, I'm cool with that, too. Sometimes it's good to be evil :) |

Most spellcasting classes are at their most powerful when you minimize classes which don't improve casting progression. You have one rogue, then 11 warlock focused, then culminate with beguiler focused levels. Decide what you want to be good at and then ask for advice. Ed |

Ed You misunderstand: The Unseen Seer is there to advance Warlock. Thought process: Warlock trails off after 11th level; damage goes to 1d6 per three instead of 1d6 per two. The first rogue level gives me a die of sneak, which will probably be seen at low levels with flanking and the eldritch glave. At higher levels, i can glave things inside the chilling tentacles. I've seen builds use Daggerspell Mage to advance both Warlock casting and sneak, but this character doesn't qualify for Daggerspell Mage, due to evilness. (Heh, i bet that one doesn't come up too often). Beguiler seemed to fit the bill to qualify for Unseen Seer. (Duskblade would have been better, but AFAICT True Strike is their only divination spell they get; the rest are spell like abilities and don't let me qualify). Once I have those two divinations, however, I can advance warlock spellcasting and sneak, with the bonus of adding either Grave Strike or Golem Strike to my beguiler list. Trouble is, once I hit Unseen Seer 3, Divination Spell Power means I lose all my non-divination Beguiler spells, as they'd go to CL 0. |
| Sieylianna03-19-07, 08:15 AM | You misunderstand: The Unseen Seer is there to advance Warlock. You're right. I didn't think Unseen Seer would advance warlock, particularly when you qualify for it based on Beguiler. I'll have to look at the books when I get home. I'm surprised that with all the warlock prestige classes in Complete Mage that Unseen Seer was your best option. Ed |
| Diablo0503-19-07, 12:11 PM | Does anyone else think its kind of a mute point...? I mean... Unseen Seer at lvl 14?? Whats the chances of this campaign going that long, and how many years would it take? I've only been specing characters out to lvl 10 or so. |
| pedr03-19-07, 12:21 PM | This hasn't been said officially anywhere, and it didn't happen with LotGR or MoH, but my understanding was that the Campaigns model was designed to run to 20th level. The previous two petered out due to poor administration. With the Factionmasters pushing things, I think there is a possibility that this campaign will go that distance. I think it'd look like this: GenCon 2006: L1 D&DXP 2007: L4 GenCon 2007: L7 D&D XP 2008: L10 GenCon 2008: L13 D&D XP 2009: L16 or 17 GenCon 2009: L20 for a single, finale Expeditions module Of course, what will actually happen will depend on a combination of a lot of factors, but the above is a perfectly workable model which would allow three years for the storylines to develop. I seem to recall mentioning this earlier and a factionmaster saying that they don't have a clear schedule or a full understanding of how long the campaign will run, but it would be good for the RPGA to have an accessible mid-high level campaign. |
| Hellcast03-19-07, 02:37 PM | But you have to count that eberron is not that high level, and every PC would be "super-heroes" at that level. but this is Xen'drik the faction masters can throw almost anything at us:P Like a scenario after the profecy starts to come true and the factions take their part in it. Of course this is just speculation and wishful thinking :) |
| Sieylianna03-19-07, 10:26 PM | Of course, what will actually happen will depend on a combination of a lot of factors, but the above is a perfectly workable model which would allow three years for the storylines to develop. The previous D&D campaigns were scheduled to run two years. I would be real surprised to see XE last three years. It's real difficult to challenge high level parties without killing them, especially when you have people who have never played picking up high level PCs. Around 15-16 is where I put the maximum character level. Ed |
| Diablo0503-20-07, 09:18 AM | Hmm... I wonder how many Syberis Heirs will suddenly appear when the campaign hits lvl 13.... |
| Lightblade06-11-07, 01:53 PM | I'll be playing Cabal 5 tonight, so I should probably settle on my character. New plan: 1) Rogue 2-4) Warlock 5) Beguiler 6-16) Unseen Seer Not getting Deceive Item is kinda annoying, especially since UMD will not be on my class list as an Unseen Seer. Build Plan: Str 10 Dex 14 Con 14 Int 12 Wis 11 Cha 12 |
| Timlagor06-12-07, 01:34 AM | Looks like a horrible mutt Lightblade. I'd urge you to drop either the warlock or the Beguiler completely. |
| Lightblade06-12-07, 02:41 AM | Once again, i'm using the Unseen Seer progression to advance Warlock blasting. The Beguiler is there for skillpoints and qualification, and Rogue is there to start a sneak attack progression. Other than not progressing Disable Device, I don't see why this is all that different from MWaO's Warlock / Daggerspell mage, without the sunk useless feats. |
