| Harliquinn06-13-07, 11:21 AM | Good morning First, this isn't a complaint at all, but merely a question. Has anyone noticed that their Covenant of Light characters have not been gaining nearly as much XP or GP as other factions given the same number of adventures? I don't usually notice this, but it seems to be a fairly large margin recently. According to the DM's of my games, we have always done well, received perfect or near perfect ratings and gotten the appropriate Story Objects. However, for comparison: All my characters but Codex were given the Level Bump (XP: 4th, GP: 5,000). This is the status after Faction Mods 4 / 5 and 1 DM's Mark 4. Covenant: Level: 4; GP: 7650 Cabal: Level: 5; GP: 11,850 Blackwheel: Level: 5, GP: 11,100 Again this is not a complaint, but I'm just curious if other people are seeing this or if perhaps our Covenant adventures haven't gone as well as the GM indicated. Thanks! Harliquinn |
| pedr06-13-07, 12:03 PM | I'll say this again here: the inability to see the exact XP/GP awarded from each module is a serious hinderance to players who aren't convinced that modules have been correctly reported/correctly reflected in the system. It could be that this is absolutely correct (though it seems odd). It could also be that one (or, looking at those figures, 2!) of those modules didn't correctly have XP/GP associated with them in the database system. There's just no way of knowing. Is there any reason whatsoever why the system can't report how much XP/GP was given from a particular module? There'd be no way to 'cheat' - all it would do would be to tell you what you'd earned so you could add it up and check that it matched the overall figure/level given. Of course I'd recommend a dual system whereby the values are available to the GM at the table, though I understand that might lead to pressure to give full XP/GP whereas now the GM doesn't have to tell the players how the questions will be answered so can more accurately reflect the performance of the PCs. Reporting the value awarded, though, wouldn't lead to this problem anyway, and would at the very least give players some evidence to put on an appeals form beyond "I think I ought possibly to have more here". |
| Harliquinn06-13-07, 12:12 PM | Yeah I really enjoyed when (at least for a short time) the XP/GP were listed by the DM ratings. I suppose this was taken out to avoid 'cheating'? However, it's pretty easy to tell what the 'best' choice is for any questions anyways, so if someone wanted to cheat, they could. Otherwise, I can't imagine why they are no longer given. It just seemed odd that after 3 of the 4 adventures available (Not counting Expedition), that I hadn't gained 4k XP. |
| Mherduwynn06-13-07, 12:45 PM | I can only tell you that we Faction Masters have a set number of experience / gold given per adventure. This value does not change across Faction lines so I can only say that barring database error, perhaps things haven't gone as well as you hoped. Either that or I need to take a stick to my fellow Faction Masters for boosting their rewards to surpass me. :) -A |
| Timlagor06-13-07, 12:59 PM | My Covenant Character is level 5 with 10550gp after all but CVN-5 (3 modules) and was only 4th after two. My BWC made 6th level after the 4 faction adventures. It is my impression that the DMMarks give smaller rewards than the Faction ones but obviously that is speculation. |

Thanks for the update though on the fixed XP/GP. I just find it very hard to believe that in 3 adventures, I haven't gained 4k or more than about 2600GP, given that my other characters have done way more than that with the same number and types of adventures. How would I go about inquiring about a DB error? Is that a question I can ask of WoTC or does that go through the FactionMasters and then up the chain? While the level bumps eventually make this a moot point, it just a little odd given the numbers above. Other than the adventure (CVN 4) at D&D Experience, I can easily ask my other DM's how we were rated on their form and see if that coincides, but I have talked to them after the game and they said we did well. We've always completed the mission, dealt with things quickly, and gotten the beneficial story objects. I know there was some problems getting the CVN-5 Story Objects in the DB (My ticket is still pending to have this looked at), so perhaps that adventure wasn't counted correctly. Thanks for answering. I hope others can at least report what they've seen so far. Harliquinn |

However, I'm still 4th level after 3 modules (2 faction, 1 DM's marks). That is an anomaly compared with 2 other factions (I can't count codex as that's my main and I've done all the expeditions, etc. with it). Harliquinn |

Harliquinn: If I were you I'd file an appeal (log into your RPGA account, click the personal information link and you'll find a link to the appeals form). Whether anything will happen / will happen before the bump I don't know, but that's a way of getting things to people's attention. PMing WotC_Tulach might help too. |

My players are also quite intrigrued by the XP/gold. One leveled up his Codex char to Level 5 by just playing CC 4 and 5, but the another played Cos 1-4, Exp 1-3 and is still level 4 (I assume playing the adventures should put you above the first bump's Xp level, so i'm adding them in)... I think it's a bit wierd.. Yes, I know I don't give EXCELLENT for RP xp everytime, but the difference is quite... wide.. |
| Hellcast06-13-07, 09:40 PM | Now i'm not finding that odd that my character is still lvl 4 after only faction 4 and Dm mark 4. i'm playing faction5 now, let's if it's enough to lvl up. |
| Grantor06-19-07, 05:46 PM | I actually think it is a huge benefit that any possible entry errors are automatically corrected by the level bumps. The turn-around time for a correction of the database would be nearly as long as the bump period, I imagine, so this works out rather elegantly. I understand that some people want to be playing with the highest possible level character that the system allows (even though the modules are tuned for the level of the bump). But I like the current XP/GP recording system exactly as it is. |
| Harliquinn06-24-07, 09:57 AM | This has been taken care of. The problem was that CoL 5 hadn't been recorded correctly and had been invalidated. I'm about the same on all characters now! I still think we should have visibility into our Xp but that's another story . Thanks all |
