| utopia2702-17-08, 10:44 PM | hello all - newby here. I'm starting up at DDxP here in a couple weeks. I'm planning a Talenta Halfling Druid - a summoner specialist w/ a dinosaur companion and a decent variety of buff/support/utility spells and capabilities. Pretty usual for a straight-up druid. Mechanics question: anyone tried to use a bogun (as in... 'beget bogun', SpC) as part of a character build? relatedly, I'd like to 'have had' either a hunting hawk or a large african grey parrot as part of the character build (and ability to teach tricks...) - but I can't find rules items for either of these - any help? So I'm signed up for an all CoL adventure: CVN-10 Fate, Interrupted by August Hahn Lady Savya, a diviner in Stormreach, is held in great regard by many of its most affluent citizens. Her predictions are considered by most to be iron-clad truth, visions of a guaranteed future. When Lady Savya informs one of her patrons that she sees 'The Gathering of the Light' falling into darkness with all those who hold it sacred, her word is enough to convince him to sever all ties with the Covenant. Now others are canceling their support as well. If the Covenant of Light cannot discover why their fate has become so cruelly interrupted, the Lady's prophecy may become self-fulfilled. A Xend’rik Expeditions Covenant of Light faction adventure optimized for 10th-level characters. Is it my imagination, or does this sound like a pretty social-skills intensive adventure? If it's as intrigue-laden, in-the-parlors-of-nobility as it sounds, then I think my poor half-barbarian Talenta Halfling is going to be pretty ineffective. Don't get me wrong - I think there's some really good role-play there, though much of it of the fish-out-of-water variety (and some for some very comic efffect..). I haven't played in this venue before, and I may be 'over-reading' the description. I'm taking a poll - anyone think this is a good one to take-one-for-the-team? utopia27 |

You might want to think some more before the game about who your character is and why. The Covenent of Light are not a bunch of bloodthirsty adventurers out for some loot; they're righteous heroes and defenders of all that is good in a land that is plagued by all manner of shadiness. You character is a 'druid' mechanically, which speaks to his abilities, and comes from Talenta which speaks to his socialogical background, but that doesn't tell me (or you) who he is and why he is willing to risk life and limb for the cause of the Covenant. The better you understand that, the better you will be able to help out in the roleplaying aspects even without the skills to mechanically back it up (sometimes what you say matters more than what you roll). Listen to what is happening, speak up to support your party's diplomancer and keep any unruly ruffians at your table in line. Do what you can for the Light and have a good time at it. I would only go with the 'taking one for the team' option for this if there's a real hole in the party's capabilities; if no one in the party has a decent charisma perhaps, or something like that. I wouldn't do it just because you're a barbarian in a mod where the face has a chance to shine. |
| utopia2702-20-08, 12:02 AM | Trying to get the gauge. I've been doing a bit more reading on some of the mods, and some of the play styles for the different factions. I'm all over pure roleplaying, but I also don't want to drag a party that's assuming a breadth of faces, spies, and diplomancers. That's part of why I'm posting in the faction-specific area, asking for advice :D So what I'm hearing is that this isn't dedicated social-conflict-resolution play, and that characters need not be dedicated to the gentle art of verbal self defense. Cool. So I won't worry about crippling the party or showing up to the black tie event in a haloween costume :P thanks much! |
