| Butterface09-20-06, 12:28 PM | Hey - it's looking a little slow here on the CoL forum, I thought I'd post this. Anyone have any funny/embarrasing moments from their CoL games? Here's mine: My Aasimar Knight, future cavalier, calling out a bold challenge to my opponent, and commanding my riding horse to charge in so I might run him down with my lance! Only to fail my ride check, and have my horse whinny, back up a few steps, and turn around. Man, I need a warhorse. :P |
| Mherduwynn09-23-06, 02:48 AM | "But Galahad, you're going the wrong way!!!" :) |
| Frobi-Wan Kenobi09-23-06, 10:22 AM | Try having the Drow Ranger in your party pretend he was being attacked by a corpse. Seeing his friend in peril my Half-Giant Divine Mind Cloud rushed to his aid, expending his psionic focus dealing a massive 5d6+4 damage. Only to watch him try to fool us again with the other body in the room. And then try having that be the only thing your PC actually hits during the entire game. |
| Randall Montgomery09-23-06, 12:06 PM | While my group has yet to play CoL, I do have a rather amusing story from our first Crimson Codex mod. While my group was under attack, my Paladin felt the best course of action would be to open the door to the building we were trying to get to, so we could make our way inside and possibly lose our attackers (Drow darkness is usefull for making a quick getaway). Unfortunantly the door was locked, and our rogue was stuck in the middle of the battle, so I took it upon myself to break the door down with my battle axe. After my first strike, which broke clean through the door, I heard an old man inside yelling "Just hold on a minute, I'm coming!" It seems the building I had initially took to be a warehouse was actually a business, and the old man had mistaken my breaking down the door for knocking. Shortly thereafter, we finished the battle, the gentleman let us inside, and I humbly offered to pay for the broken door. Not one of my finer moments, but it did give birth to my Paladin's catchphrase, "Sorry about that, I'll pay for the damages." :D |
| EberronMoses09-29-06, 01:31 AM | I got one from Blackwheel Company. The Pc's stormed a forward outpost with a vanguard of troops to try and assassinate their leader and capture info on the Caldyn Fragments. Well, they ended up fighting it out with the entire base. Thirty goblins took on the npcs. Now, i know thats impossible but my dice had cursed themselves that night and those darn goblins, all 30 of them hit like 3 times throughout this entire, long, drawn out combat that bogged down the game. Well, the party is down the middle fighting out except for the scout, who had set off the alarm sneaking into a guard tower from the wall. this combat went on for over 30 minutes and that entire time, the scout fought the same little goblin. The PC's below SLAUGHTERED the goblins but he fought that one goblin all night long before finally knocking it out of the tower to an uncertain death. I have sworn that they will eventually meat up with the "musketeer goblin" once again. |

You should so give that goblin levels of something and make him a major npc in one of your DM's Marks. |
| JJeff09-29-06, 11:37 PM | I got one from a CoS game. The PCs were trying to inflitrate a house via a kitchen. GM's description: "The kitchen is empty except for a big table with some cut-up food, a chopping block and some vegetables. There is a couple of door on the wall opposite you and to your right is a Dumb-waiter that is on...." Barbaian PC: "What? Dumb Waiter? There's a Mute Servant here? We are found out! Die!!!" *Attacks Dumb-waiter* GM: "Arrrggghhh.... Another Gazebo incident... Why me..." |

I was one of the PCs playing and I was slapping my forehead for a bit and laughing my guts out. The guy playing the barbarian sincerely didn't get the joke but he realised his mistake after a bit of explanation. |

So far our battles in covenatn of light have not gone all that well. From killer war dogs to murderous barbarians we have gotten our butts kicked in. |
| Mherduwynn10-29-06, 03:53 PM | <chuckles> Hey, nobody said being Good was easy. :) You'll all have a chance to shine in Mere of Shattered Souls though. Well.... ...and get your butts kicked in. :) -August |

Well.... ...and get your butts kicked in. :) -August Hey August - I've got three characters to choose from for Mere of Shattered Souls, and was planning on most likely using my Dragon Shaman from CC. This whole "being good isn't easy, but you'll have your chance to shine in Mere" talk is making me wonder, is there some awesome stuff for CoL people in Mere? If I play through this and find out I could've gotten an alternate paladin mount or something I'm going to freak out! Anyway - just curious. :) Kevin |
| Mherduwynn11-22-06, 05:33 AM | Unfortunately, I can't say a word. Spoilers are bad. :) -A |
| smerwin2911-22-06, 08:56 AM | However, I think we can safely say that no Expedition module will have rewards for just one Faction over another. I personally am going to be a stickler for as much equality as possible between the Factions in all regards. Every Faction should have a chance to shine in all the Expedition mods, although the CoL may shine a little brighter (much to the dismay of those who want to sneak in). Shawn Crimson Codex Guy |
| Istaran11-22-06, 01:24 PM | Another Crimson Codex story: I was playing a spellscale dragon shaman in CC1 and we got most of the way through the module without taking any damage. Everything that hit our party hit for 1 damage and was stopped by my aura. Finally we got to the point where we needed to climb down a ladder to progress further.. simple enough. My spellscale decided that merely climbing a ladder wasn't stylish enough, so he wanted to descend with a certain flare.. which would be fine if I made my climb check, but rather than just taking 10 like a sane PC, I rolled and.. fell 20 feet, getting walloped by the floor for 7 or 8 damage.. By the end of the adventure, our enemies had still not dealt as much damage to our party combined as that stupid fall down a ladder. |
| smerwin2911-22-06, 01:26 PM | I just got the name for the next Crimson Codex adventure: "Ladders of Doom" |
| Mherduwynn11-22-06, 09:13 PM | An excerpt from the Caldyn Fragments: "Steps between lines that reach to the heavens, a hundred rungs herald the doom of all life. The one who leaps before looking will fall from a halfway perch, plummeting into the grave of his own pride." :) |
| Evanta11-23-06, 08:11 PM | At end of COL1 my cleric started getting a little cocky. Though he took 2 hits, thanks to divine vigor he was still up. Healed up in 1 round, enough time to deal the final blow to the BBEG.(never mind that he was stunned/blinded by color spray at that point.) Started COL2, started off over-confident and bossy. (hey I should be the leader, I'm da boss! Listen to the left hand of the Silver Flame!) Dropped cold and dying in Round 1, Battle 1, Blow 1. My cleric started to be a lot more humble and hid behind the warforged for the rest of the adventure. |
| Mherduwynn11-24-06, 02:57 AM | Ouch! Now there's humility the hard way! :D -A |
| Schwarg12-29-06, 05:00 PM | The Funny Not Funny Moment of All Time I was running a house campaign when at this point of the adventure, the party(16th level adventures) was laying low in a gnome city where one of the gnome pcs grew up. They just looted one of the most powerful thieves guilds in the realm as well powerful city states were interested in capturing two members for reasons uncertain at this point. The group split up in the city doing their things: druid getting a new companion and training it, the fighters & rogues upgrading gear, and the wizard, researching and learning new spells. The gnome cleric however wanted to throw himself a welcome home party. HE SPENT 10,000 gp for a one day event!!!!!! For two weeks of promoting, I told him that everyone around the world will know about his party, and it will be one of the biggest welcome home parties yet! He did not get any of my hints, the other pcs were emersed in looking up items for their characters or feats for their new animanl companion--- so they weren't even tempted to metagame, except one player who saw this role-playing go down--- the grabbing of a dozen or so NPC character sheets I stash behind my seat at the table was a good tell and fun foreshadowing I did for the player who was witnessing the other player set up a TPK encounter unbeknownst to him. He was a divine trickster, so it was going to 'a roast'. All the pc friends were up front. Most of them had none of their gear since much of it was being worked on or being traded in for new items. He was introduced, and two meteor swarms hit the crowd followed by two quickened wall of fires, two blade barriers, and a hail of arrows all center massing the wizard--- Surprise round. Next round, more arrows, some power words, half the party dead, and a few hundred roasted gnomes, it was the divine trickster's turn. "Everybody stay calm, there is no reason to panic!" He turns invisible and runs away!!! At this point the remaining party members that are alive are livid, the ones dead were crushed spiritually since they had no clue I was going to throw two rage walkers, a mercenary group they fought weeks ago plus the elite members of the thieves guild they just fought. It was supposed to be TPK encounter. The wizard in the party was just about to leave the group FOREVER, when one of the dead players, goes to me, can't you say he memorized miracle? He interupts, "Well I did," in a coy and sneaky way. And he did, but didn't want to blow the XP. The guy lunged at the guy playing the gnome, but to no avail, he escaped his clutches. I mean com'on, have you ever seen two D&D geeks fight. Its like watching two monkeys trying to hump the same football. Anyhow, he called in on the miracle, "Everything that happened since we arrived was just an awful dream." Brilliant. So I got to give everyone nightmares of the gnome and his sceme to roast everyone, both literally and figurativly during one of his awful stand-up routines. From that day forward no one in the party laughed at any of his jokes. |
