Ideas for DM's Marks [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-05-06, 10:37 PM I'll be writing and running the Covenant of Light DM's Marks at GenCon, but still don't have enough information to even come up with a plot for them. So far, all I know about Xen'Drik is the 1/2 page description in the Eberron Campaign Settings book. I suppose I'll know more when I see the first 2 mods, but that won't be for at least 2 weeks. Can someone get me started with some "seeds" for CoL DM's marks? What would be good "hooks", rewards, monsters?

07-06-06, 11:32 AM Given that the majority of CoL members seem to originate from followers of the Soverign Host, Silver Flame, and Path of Light, it would work to use foes appropriate to any of those groups (agents of the Dark Six, Blood of Vol, Dreaming Dark, etc). Also, remember that alignment is not as static as in traditional D&D...you can have good werewolves as allies and evil metallic dragons as foes. It would provide a great conundrum for a Silver Flame character to try to protect a lycanthrope, a race that his faith tried to wipe from Khorvaire. Keep in mind the larger thread through the campaign of trying to locate and decipher elements of the Prophecy...perhaps there is a race between the PC's and their foes to recover or locate an element.

Also keep in mind that the heroes of the Covenant of Light are most united by their basic sense of good. Stories that alternately let them genuinely be heroes or that challenge them to find the light in the shades of grey will be memorable.

07-06-06, 12:57 PM There hasn't been very much background published on the campaign, especially in regard to the "Caldyn Fragments". I'll have to think about it some more. Once I get a "germ" of an idea, the rest will just fall into place.

07-07-06, 02:23 AM From what I've come to understand, the Caldyn Fragments are a part of the Draconic Prophecy. Since the Covenant of Light is interested in bringing about the greater good, any sort of prophetic interpretation to such an effect would provide a worthwhile Mark.

07-07-06, 12:22 PM Yeah, I'm waiting for it, but I'd like to get started on my DM's Marks, as I have a LOT of them to write in the next couple of weeks (both Xen'Drik and MoH). I haven't even seen the first two faction mods, yet, to get an idea of what they're doing in those. Sigh...
