The Lord of Radiant Hold, Xandrin Corvallis, really needs to learn to delegate chores into town. While coming back from a temple visit, he has been caught by questioners once again.

This time, it's you.

Very soon, a Covenant of Light webpage will be available for members of the faction and other curious readers. It will contain a lot of basic information and enhancements usable during both play and roleplay. Teasers, short stories, news and rumors will all be located there for you.

However, there is room of player-directed questions and, in the interests of making this faction what you want it to be, this forum has been opened to feild your questions and suggestions.

Please feel free to ask anything you want to know or would like to see about the Covenant of Light.

Thank you and take care,

Hidey, ho, August!!! I'm the local volunteer to "eat" Covenant of Light. I'm also running all 4 CoL mods at Gen Con. I'm pretty hyped to be running it and look forward to writing the DM's Marks (everyone seems to like my MoH ones, already). However, there is precious little info about either Xen'Drik or CoL for me to base my first 2 DM's Marks off of.

So, can you give me any help, background, and/or guidance on what would be appropriate? All I really need is a "seed" and I can turn it into a full-blown adventure. E.g. I based an entire MoH mod on the fact that there's a lightning rail station in Korth where the Blood of Vol hangs out. Another mod was based on the short entry in the Eberron source book about Morgrave University being involved in the black marketing of the artifacts they have been entrusted with (it also tied in with the Multiverse story line).

I can take a sentence or short paragraph and make a story out of it, but I don't feel like I have enough background material to make a "Covenant of Light" mod, rather than a generic D&D mod.

Thanks,
Marcia

How is the Covenant set up? Are there ranks? A formal leadership system? Are we just a loose confederation of like-minded individuals, or do we have a rigid, Silver-Flame inspired hierarchy?

Any and all info about the CoL would really be appreciated...so far, they seem the least well fleshed-out faction...pretty much just "We're the good guys."

No worries, Marcia.

For you (and any other judge out there looking to run DM Marks for the Covenant), try these on for size:

1) The Covenant has a pair of caravels that sail into Stormreach's harbor on a constant basis. These ships bring supplies and shipments from its contact points northward to the city for transport to the nearby keep of Radiant Hold. Various outside interests (including the Cabal and Blackwheel) have been known to try and raid these shipments. Keep the contents of the crates and boxes a mystery, but otherwise have fun running escort missions.

2) There is some tension between the Sovereign Host element of the CoL and its more militant Silver Flame side. These stresses never come to the point of blows, but they have been known to interfere with each other in other ways. Sometimes, their clashes can cause a greater evil to go free or succeed in its aims.

3) There is a couatl that lives near Radiant Hold and occasionally visits its Lord for conversation and friendly company. While she has never spoken to anyone else, she is not above letting itself be seen when forces of light need inspiration. This has led to the Covenant's enemies targetting her for capture or destruction.

4) The Covenant of Light is actively opposed to the use or harbouring of undead in any sense, preferring that all creatures be allowed to their proper rest when they die. This can cause serious conflict with certain nations or mindsets.

5) The Covenant of Light attracts heroes of all kinds but does NOT have legal authority beyond what a private citizen of Stormreach might possess. A certain amount of vigilantism is acceptable to (even appreciated by) the city's Coin Lords, but if taken too far, this behavior can bring members ionto conflict with Stormreach's established authorities.

Hope these help!

The reason the CoL seems "less well-fleshed out" is because most of its content is waiting on its Faction Page to be published. Trust me, there is a lot to the CoL that is coming...

However, I can answer your direct questiuons, at least in passing. That's why I posted this thread in the first place.

1) The CoL has ranks, but moving past its basic position of "Scion", which all members begin at, is both diffiuclt and not likely to occur in the space of the campaign. Among Scions, authority tends to come down to expertise and personality. If one can lead, one does lead.

2) The Covenant maintains a military stronghold outside Stormreach called Radiant Hold. This keep, built within the ruins of an ancient Giantish temple, surrounds a massive glowing dragonshard fillid with swirling motes of light (hense the faction's symbol). Serving as a "light in the darkness", Radiant Hold welcomes anyone needing shelter or wishing to serve the greater good.

3) Both the Silver Flame and the Sovereign Host have representatives in the CoL but neither holds a majority. In the eyes of the Light, it isn't where your faith lies but that you have faith at all.

4) The beliefs of the Covenant are summed up in a roll called the Litany. This will be posted on the Faction page soon.

If you've any other questions, let me know!

Are there any representatives from the Path of Light, or the Undying Court? If so, what role do they play?

One of the tenets of the CoL is that anyone wishing to serve the Light is allowed to do so until they prove themselves unable or unsuitable to do so.

This does mean that the faction leaves itself wide open to betrayal but it also lets membership stay available to those who wish to turn their dark lives around. It is the Lady of Light's belief that the worst villains are those who think themselves beyond redemption. By making absolution and fellowship welcome to anyone, she aims to abolish that sense of hopelessness.

In answer to your direct question, yes there are representatives of both the Path of Light and the Undying Court in the CoL. The role they serve is the same, for the most part, and that of any Scion.

The CoL is not about fancy titles or "special" priveleges. It is a collective of sentient beings serving the greater good because it is the right thing to do. Thus, everyone (for the most part) has the same authority and rank- that of a hero. Nothing more.

And nothing less.
