Study of the arcane arts had produced wonders unimagined before the rise of Galifar, and the peace of the kingdom held across the land. The Last War shattered that peace, and turned the power of magic to destruction… a folly that ended with the destruction of Cyre. Only once before has the world seen destruction to equal the Mourning: in the devastation that destroyed the giants of Xen’drik. Now explorers are flooding to this shattered land. Some seek gold, some seek power. All of them are fools, and their actions threaten Eberron itself. The mysteries of Xen’drik must be solved and its secrets uncovered, before those deadly powers can fall into the hands of the ignorant. With luck, we may yet restore the peace of Galifar. If we fail… Khorvaire itself may share Cyre’s fate. -Ohnal Caldyn, Keeper of the Book Re-founded by Ohnal Caldyn, the man who found the fragments, the Crimson Codex is an alliance of the wise. Before the fall of Galifar, the Codex was a semi-secret organization that tutored princes and princes and advised kings and queens. Its members were the greatest minds of Khorvaire: wizards of Arcanix, sages from Korranberg, explorers, chroniclers, and spies. It was said that all things worth knowing were held in the pages of the Crimson Codex. War shattered this alliance, as wizards, artificers, and spies abandoned the Codex to serve their own homelands. For decades the halls of the order remained empty. But as kings and princes laid the groundwork of the Treaty of Thronehold, so the wise set about rebuilding the Crimson Codex, creating a new alliance that might one day restore the peace of the past. Today its members include bards, scouts, wizards, explorers, and spies from the intelligence agencies of all of the Five Nations. Some of its members are driven by simple curiosity. Others hope to learn arcane secrets or to unlock the great mysteries of the past. Regardless of their origins they are bound together by their respect for the fallen kingdom of Galifar, and the hope that the secrets of Xen’drik may allow them to restore that golden age. You should join the Crimson Codex if you want to resolve mysteries, explore the unknown, or to serve as a secret agent of the nations of Khorvaire. The Codex is devoted to the acquisition of knowledge: but this is a task that can involve spies and inquisitives as easily as sages and wizards. |
