| Skerrit02-18-08, 04:52 PM | The 10th-level Fastplays are now up! |
| Skerrit02-18-08, 04:59 PM | Oh, and as a side note, though it claims that the XECS 4.0 is on the XE page, the link takes you to the XECS 3.0, so hopefully that means it is in the process of changing over. |
| WolfStar7602-18-08, 05:34 PM | The link works for me, guess that means 'tis fixed. :) |
| Malicea02-18-08, 06:05 PM | There seems to be an error with the Ultimate Magus fastplay. The 'spells per day' section listing appears to show spells level 0-4, consistent with a 7th level Wizard, but the spells known shows level 5 spells. I assume the spells known section is incorrect and should show level 1-4, since the Sorcerer side can cast up to level 3 spells (full progression for Sorcerer from UM.) |
| smerwin2902-18-08, 07:10 PM | Yes, and I tried to make that clear on the sheet by saying "replace 5th with 0" on the right side. The sheet we had to work with had no way to easily show two sets of spells, so I made the best with what I had. |
| Malicea02-18-08, 10:57 PM | Yes, and I tried to make that clear on the sheet by saying "replace 5th with 0" on the right side. The sheet we had to work with had no way to easily show two sets of spells, so I made the best with what I had. I meant on the previous page, the spells in the wizard's spellbook include 5th level spells: Cone of Cold, etc. Presumably you ignore these? |
| smerwin2902-19-08, 08:24 AM | Ah, now I see. Yes, please ignore level 5 spells in the "spellbook." |
| bgardner_197102-19-08, 12:02 PM | Kaerah Favored Soul 10: Charisma is only 14; can't cast 5th level spells (needs a charisma of 15). I think spellcasting for favored souls is keyed off of Charisma, right? |
| EvilCouch02-20-08, 01:25 AM | Kaerah Favored Soul 10: Charisma is only 14; can't cast 5th level spells (needs a charisma of 15). I think spellcasting for favored souls is keyed off of Charisma, right?I sure hope so. His other mental stats are even worse. |
| Skerrit02-20-08, 09:07 AM | Not sure how that one slipped through but I would suggest that if you want to play the favored soul, you use 4000 gp of his cash on hand (which has) to buy a Cloak of Charisma +2. |
| bgardner_197102-20-08, 03:44 PM | Rith has the Quicken Spell feat, which he cannot use as a sorcerer. A quickened sorcerer spell is still a full round action. |
| Skerrit02-20-08, 04:34 PM | Yes, that's right. Make a note and swap out Quicken if you use that fastplay. I'll start a list of these errors for the con. |
| Skerrit02-20-08, 04:48 PM | I just spoke with HQ and they have not yet printed the fastplays for DDXP, so there is still time to correct these errors. Post here or send me a PM if you see any more errors (besides the 3 pointed out already) or things you have questions on and I will get them fixed ASAP. That said there is really only about a day left to do this, so if you are gonna scour the fastplays for oddities, do it now rather than later. |

Thanks for the quickness of response and interaction that you FMs have done during this Campaign. We really appreciate it. --Steven |
| Mherduwynn02-20-08, 05:29 PM | I sure hope so. His other mental stats are even worse. Heh. Only so many points to go around... as you are all well aware. In any case, Fast Plays are not built to excel; they exist to let you get into the game fast and offer a building block for future adventures. That said, oops of the Charisma! There was indeed a Cloak of Charisma supposed to be in the equipment list. I completely omitted it come write-up time. Thanks to Skerrit for offering the correction without waiting to consult me first. Fast answers are always best. Take care and have fun! -August |
| quizboy02-21-08, 12:22 PM | I'm having a problem pulling up and printing the Favored Soul file. Granted, I have weird machines (Sun, Mac, as well as PC). The format seems to be different enough from the other files that I either can't read it using old versions of acroread or I can't print to a file from my Mac from within the new acroread. The new acroread won't let me print to a postscript file, save as pdf, or anything. I haven't tried my pc yet. I just wanted to let you know of some formatting issues that might be able to be simplified. Is anyone else having problems like this? --Steven |
| smerwin2902-21-08, 12:32 PM | The favored soul character was a little different in that an extra pdf page was included in the file and contained spell information. So that is probably the reason why, although I can open it without any problems. Shawn |
| smerwin2902-21-08, 01:27 PM | Rith has the Quicken Spell feat, which he cannot use as a sorcerer. A quickened sorcerer spell is still a full round action. I had meant to give Rith the metamagic specialist class feature (PHB II). So instead of a familiar, Rith can cast metamagicked spells with no increase in casting time 3/day + Int mod (minimum 1). I just forgot to add it to the sheet. My bad. You can either make that addition to the sheet, or do as Greg suggests and swap out the feat. Thanks. Shawn |
| bgardner_197102-21-08, 02:06 PM | Rev: has a Ring of Force Shield that is not listed in her AC bonus (she gets a +2 shield bonus to AC). Her reflex save is +7 (+2 +3 +2 on bonuses). Xor'Valet: Can use Otherwordly Surge 4 times per day. This isn't noted on the sheet and most people won't know how often it can be used. |
| Skerrit02-21-08, 02:19 PM | Thanks bgardner_1971, I have made those corrections now as well. |
| Skerrit02-21-08, 02:22 PM | Is anyone else having problems like this? As Shawn noted, it's saved differently. There are actually two files saved as a PDF bundle, meaning you need acrobat 8 or better to open it. I know that the free version works fine and opens it on all my PCs, so it's probably just that you are using it on a Mac. |
| Skerrit02-22-08, 09:05 AM | The fastplays on the XE site have been updated with the corrections noted here. |

I know that the free version works fine and opens it on all my PCs, so it's probably just that you are using it on a Mac. No, I can pull up the file fine once I get the new copy of Acrobat on my mac. I just can't print to a file or do anything to get the file to a point where I can print. I'm sure that my setup is an odd one, and that a normal PC with a normal printer may not have an issue. I just wanted to point out that the file isn't easily compatible with other systems. It may be too late to change it now, but it sure would be nice if it wasn't so difficult just to pull up the file. --Steven |
| Skerrit02-22-08, 10:55 AM | Does it open/print on your PC? |
| quizboy02-22-08, 12:21 PM | Does it open/print on your PC? Sort of. My printers are networked, so I tried to print to a file so I could send it over to the printer, but acrobat 8 crashed every time. I finally connected to the printer via the network and it worked (it took a long time, but it worked). Again, I know that I'm talking about setups that aren't mainstream (Mac, networked printers, Solaris machines, ...), but what it comes down to is that the new version of acrobat isn't so compatible at the moment. Is it possible to get the files in a more standard format like the other fastplays? If not now, then my hope is that it will be considered in the future. Thanks. --Steven |
| Skerrit02-22-08, 12:51 PM | We'll definately keep it in mind for the future. It's too late to change in time at the moment. |

Thanks. --Steven Please also inform Adobe of this problem, including whatever relevant details (and probably a copy of the file since it's not exactly secret info). I hate PDFs because they always find new and interested ways to break on me, but the only way Adobe will make things work better is if they know what the problems are. This is a technical problem with Adobe's software, since obviously the file itself is valid and uncorrupted (or it wouldn't have worked after those contortions you went through). Also, thank you FMs for looking into this and trying to avoid triggering this technical problem in the future. |
| EvilCouch02-28-08, 06:38 AM | For whatever reason, I'm in editor mode tonight: Covenant of Light: Favored Soul: The "Spell save" for the Favored Soul indicates a save of 13+Spell level, however I believe that Favored Souls use Wisdom to determine their spells' save DC. The individual spell levels' "spell save DC" properly indicates the correct DC, though. Knight: The Knight's ability score increase is listed as an enhancement bonus, when it should just be figured into the base score. Blackwheel: Rogue: The link to the Blackwheel Rogue is spelled "Robue" for some weird reason. As a Bugbear, he should have Scent. The ability scores seem to have been overspent by one. (stats minus bugbear racials, gauntlets and 2 stat increases to Strength are 14,14,14,14,10,8 = 26 point buy) The gauntlets of Ogre Strength's bonus to strength should be listed in the enhancement bonus column to avoid players from trying to stack an extra enhancement bonus to strength onto him. Ranger: Typo in feats for the Blackwheel Ranger: "Point Blank Hot". Also, the ability scores appear to be overspent by three. (stats minus lizardfolk racials, gauntlets and 2 stat increases to Strength are 14,16,12,10,14,8 = 28 point buy or 1/1 to Str/Dex for 15,15,12,10,14,8 which also equals 28 points) He also could stand to have the gauntlets mentioned in the enhancement column. He's shorting himself an extra +2 from Favored Enemy. At 5th level, he gets an additional +2 to either his first favored enemy or the one that he just picked up at 5th level. Cabal of Shadows: Ninja: Has 2 languages listed, but with an Intelligence bonus of 3, he should have 5. Ranger: Has Greater Bracelets of Archery listed, however they exceed the maximum EV for a single item. (25,000GP for the Bracelets, max single item EV of 24,500GP) Personally, I'd probably let it slide if I was judging, but as these are the official characters, they should probably follow the rules to the letter. Crimson Codex: Rogue: +2 Misc bonus to Dexterity is unexplained on the character sheet. Ability score increases? Racial modifier? Either way, it should be figured into the base score, as it's the character's current natural score. The character is short her 9th level feat. Far Shot is a bonus feat awarded at Invisible Blade 4 and doesn't need to be taken. Ultimate Magus: Same thing as the Rogue, but with a +1/+1 to Dex and Int. Any faction: Sorcerer: Shorting himself 2 point buy points, (10,11,14,10,10,15 = 23 point buy). He is also incorrectly placing the ability score increase in the enhancement bonus column. Cleric: Also doing the ability score increase in the enhancement bonus column thing. Rogue: Missing an ability score increase. (10,14,14,14,8,14 = 25 point buy + 1 increase). The Rogue is also using illegal feats. Per XE campaign rules, all Dragonmarks are on the Restricted Feats list. |
| quizboy02-28-08, 10:04 AM | Thanks for all the involvment that you Faction Masters have given to us players. We really appreciate the ability to look over the fastplays for mistakes. I know many people who wouldn't use the Mark of Heroes fastplays because they were considered so poor, but these people think the XE fastplays are ok. Also, thanks for looking into my acrobat issue. Yes, I reported any acrobat issues to Adobe so they can get fixed. The reason I'm sensitive to it is because I rarely use a PC, but I use computers all day. (work is linux, sun;home is mac, linux and just a little PC) It makes me very aware of when things are not cross-platform compatible (like pdfs are supposed to be). Anyway, thanks again. --Steven |

However, these two at least could fall under the fact that the FMs can selectively override build restrictions for the fastplays; after all they're allowed to use races that otherwise are not allowed in the campaign (kobold, lizard folk, etc). Not a bad idea to call them out and confirm though. |

I was just assuming that there was some expansion card out there that was allowing them. In that case, a few of the things I pointed out are probably non-issues. Thanks to all of the faction masters for putting these guys together, by the way. |
