I noticed that you can only use up expansion slots to unlock a class's alternate ability (as giving in the PHB II) at 1st level. Is that your character level or class level?

For example... say I create a first level Scout and later I decide to take some Ranger levels. Can I not use expansion slots to unlock the Ranger's alternate class ability Distracting Attack? Even if it is my first level of Ranger (scout 3/ranger 1; character level 4)

Thanks in advance.

You may only have one expansion slot (your 1st) devoted to unlocking an alternate class ability and it must be for the class you take at 1st level. Certain campaign cards may unlock other race/class substitutions or alternate abilities that you can use as a part of your card stack.

Thank you! That answered my question perfectly.
