Am I missing something, or where is the info on archivist starting gold?

I would imagine you could (in the absence of a restriction on the archivist) take the maximum gold (which is what other classes do).

Sorry I misunderstood and thought you meant it was just missing from the XECS 1.1

We'll put something in the XECS v2.0

Another thing to consider is whether you want to use the spellbook rule for archivistsWizards start with a standard spellbook containing all 0-level PHB spells and 3 plus Intelligence modifier 1st-level spells. As stated in the Player’s Handbook, at each new wizard level a wizard can add two spells of his or her choice for free. In addition, they may also have as many levels of spell as ranks they have in Spellcraft.Achivists are supposed to be able to add Druid or Domain spells, etc to their prayebrook by finding them on scrolls.

Which spells from the core books are free to take might be something to look at.

I believe Customer Service (not 'official' as FAQ or Errata) has stated domain spells are not considered divine for the purposes of the Archivist. I would think if Wizard 'auto' spells are allowed for Archivists, they must come from cleric list. If you wish to purchase spells in your book (as Wizards can), those could come from any divine spellcasting list.

Here's the ability descriptionAt any time, an archivist can also add spells found on scrolls containing divine spells to his prayerbook, but he must make any rolls and spend the time required (see Adding Spells to a Wizard's Spellbook on page 178 of the Player's Handbook). The archivist can learn and thus prepare nonclerical divine spells in this fashion but the two free spells he gains for advancing in class level must be selected from the cleric spell list. The first bold phrase seems expansive, and a domain spell on a scroll would qualify. The second seems possibly restrictive, since a domain spell isn't a "non-clerical" divine spell. Hmmm. Then I see Skip Williams wrote up a little guide to archivistsCompared to a cleric, any one archivist can use only a small slice of the cleric spell list (that portion she can manage to write into her prayer book). An archivist has some ability to poach spells from other divine spellcasters' class spell lists, but doing so takes time and money. The archivist also has access only to the basic cleric class spell list, not to the cleric's often potent domain spells. that last line sounds restrictive, but I think he's ratehr saying that aside from the "poaching" ability, the access is only to basic cleric spells, not domain spells. He doesn't seem to mention the possibility of using divine spells on scrolls that are domain spells.

Well maybe we'll have a FAQ/Sage Advice answer sometime.

But in XE, wizards don't PAY for spells at all it seems, they just get bonus spells from spellcraft ranks. There doesn't seem to be any mechanism for getting a scroll and copying it in.

One might even question a spell on an expansion list. Does it get into the spellbook because it's on the list?

And now we see why it was removed from the CS in the first place! ;-)

We'll look into this and see what we can come up with.

According to Skerrit, Wizards' spellbooks are considered part of their EV, so they can buy spells to 'know' for an adventure. Link is Here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=767318).

A spell would need to be unlimited or unlocked (by card, expansion list, etc) to be in the Wizard's book or be purchased with EV.

To quote the XECS:
Wizards and Spellbooks: Wizards start with a standard spellbook containing all 0-level PHB spells and 3 plus Intelligence modifier 1st-level spells. As stated in the Player’s Handbook, at each new wizard level a wizard can add two spells of his or her choice for free. In addition, they may also have as many levels of spell as ranks they have in Spellcraft.
[Skipping example]
If a wizard wants to add more spells to his spellbook above and beyond this, those spells must be paid for at the standard 100 gp for each page from their EV.
Assuming the same rule goes for archivist prayerbooks (which would be fair but is technically not the explicit law of the land yet). Then an archivists 1+int+2xlevel spells they get by default would have to be cleric spells (per the class description). The extra purchased spells at 100gp/page would be any divine spells. Domain-only divine spells might not be available (do they normally show up on the divine scroll list in the DMG? If not, it seems likely the archivist would be unable to track them down). The spells based on spellcraft are up to factionmaster adjudication as well. It seems as though these are meant to represent extra spells the wizard tracks down and copies into his book, since it is rare for a wizard PC to not gather extra spells in his book. Thus an archivist equivalent would be to assume the archivist has tracked down extra prayers and added them to his prayerbook. Since the tracking down and copying mechanism allows for any divine spell, the logic suggests to me that those bonus spells should be from any divine spell list.
Of course, as with the wizard, you must both unlock non-phb/ecs spells and include them in the appropriate count of spells (either the default for leveling, the extra for spellcraft, or the extra from EV) in order to have them available to cast.
