Hi all,

I was looking at the campaign standards and I see that the EV costs of the various homunculus are rather low (and different from the ECS). Though I have yet to hit level 4, I would like to have the answers to these questions if possible:

1) Does the extraordinary artisan feat work on homunculus costs?
2) Can I have more than one homunculus?
3) How much does each hit die upgrade cost in XE? (2000 gp according to ECS)
4) If I craft other constructs by taking the craft construct feat instead, (have a warforged artificer who can take substitution levels with expansion slots) how should I calculate gp cost?

Thanks.

I am away on vacation, I will try to answer this when I return from Texas.

Yes.

2) Can I have more than one homunculus?

Yes.

3) How much does each hit die upgrade cost in XE? (2000 gp according to ECS)

Clearly the rules need expansion here. I will add this to v2.0 of the XECS.

Skerrit,

Thanks for the reply and hope you had a great vacation. I have a few followup questions and suggestions for inclusion in XECS 2.0

1)Assuming the costs listed in XECS reflect the crafting costs, with extraordinary artisan, I would for example, pay 375 EV for an expeditious messenger (3/4 cost)?

2)Great!

3)Thanks.

4)Some things I hope you can look at in XECS2.0: I believe craft construct costs an expansion slot. Are constructs/golems from the MM "locked" and if they are, will craft construct unlock any? Please also consider Effigies from Complete Arcane, expansion slots and if base creatures and creature templates are "locked".

Have a few more questions:

1) Can an artificer's discounts get around the gp limit? ie. if I can craft something that costs 4k at level 3 for just 2k, will I be able to get that item?

2) For the purposes of assigning feats to homunculi, are those from the monster manual locked?

Thanks.

1) No, the gold piece limit uses "campaign cost" and no final cost or book cost (page 10).

2) Yes, anything you get as part of class ability is unlocked. The XECS v1.1 specifically mentions you get access to the MM and ECS homoculi; but those from MoE are locked (or restricted for the dedicated wright). (page 11)

It's me again with more questions. Thanks to campaign staff for bringing us XECS 2.0. It addressed some of the things I have brought up in this thread, though I wished Craft Construct wasn't banned. Me and my big mouth >_<

Firstly, are homunculi considered "equipment" that can be retooled before every event? Earlier, Skerrit clarified that extraordinary artisan works on homunculus costs, can I assume that that includes both base costs and upgrade costs?

Next up two things that wont be a problem until much higher levels but I'd just like to have some clarification for character planning purposes. From the Restricted list,

Metamagic Spell Trigger (CM) - Can I assume that the artificer ability of the same name and function is still legal?

Least dragonmark (ECS) - I am interested in taking up the PrC Cannith Wand Adept at higher levels. If dragonmarks are restricted, a future XECS may need to provide an alternative feat for level 3 of that PrC.

1) Since you make the homoculi as a Craft ability, yes its basically like crafting a magic item, so ya, those feats all apply to the cost (just as if you were making an itelligent sword and then upgrading it; your sword just has legs).

2) Yes; its one of the better reasons to be an artificer.

3) I'll fix that in the next Dispel Confusion. Prestige classes that give you Dragonmarks as class abilities still give you those marks. Note that qualify for the class you have to be a member of House Cannith which means one of three things. Either you are a member of the Blackwheel faction (in which case Dragonmarks aren't restricted), you used the old creation card for House Cannith from MOH (in which case Dragonmarks aren't restricted), or you unlocked "Noble Title" as your 1st-level expansion slot (which is where the problem comes in).
