Can we affect the 4e eberron setting? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Did I read somewhere that the finale of XE will have ripples that affect future D&D campaigns? Cool.

But Eberron will also be advanced 2 years when the new setting is released.

Does that mean that the results of our play will be incorporated into the setting in the 4e release? That would be awesome, and I'd be very encouraged to play!

(it may inspire griefer play, though and have some crazy players decide it would be cool to kill an important NPC or "throw" the mod)

It would be cool to see the four factions detailed in a new book, and the plots alluded to.

It's probably too early to get a definitive answer on this. However, I think it would be great. The chance that a few griefers would hurt the campaign as a whole is low, since what happens is taken from the majority of tables.

Wait, what? Developers would actually pay attention to the consumers that pay for their products? ;)

I think that would require far more specific questions out of the end of any given mod, and some serious consideration on the whole as to what they would want to actually have allowed to change.

If anyone read the Sands of Fate background stuff, it seems like there's a big change on the horizon anyway before the end of the Xen'Drik campaign.

I think you might be missing his point. He's not saying "they should listen to us about the changes to Eberron in 4th edition." He's saying "I wonder if the things that we do in the Xen'drik Expeditions campaign will be reflected in the new Eberron Campaign Setting.

Misrepresented; I was merely implying that for all the official content that has been run thus far in Xen'Drik, it has only caused ripples in the RPGA setting. Even then, if 100 people showed up and said "Yeah, the captain of the Covenenant of Light died in our module" would the next module feature a new leader?

Not that we paid for the RPGA modules (and kudos to the guys who write the stories), but the same question could be posed to, say, Eyes of the Lich Queen.

It would be quite refreshing to see a future adventure feature choices that I made in a previous module. Example:
(Slightly off topic)
Shadowrun used to have questionaires at the back of their adventures where you filled out a survey to tell them what happened, which directly affected future adventures in that given area. Shadowrun players even got to elect the president in 2057. Now THAT is affecting a game world.

Actually each of the Xen'drik modules has a set of questions that govern what the players did and how they did it. While they don't include things that were not integral to the story (if your group killed a certain NPC out of context, that wouldn't be recorded).

For instance, in the Blackwheel modules, depending upon how many people saved Captain Wynn and Sgt. Crash determined if they 'lived' or 'died' in the main story line.

Indeed. And we tally these. Stay tuned shortly for a plot summary of part 2. We pay careful attention to which NPCs live and die. I know that I personally have had to change a few story arcs or create new adventure templates based upon aggregate PC actions.

As for the next campaign... well, we will just have to wait and see. ;)

What effect the results of the XE campaign has on Eberron is obviously up to Wizards and beyond the scope of the RPGA. That said, it is certainly possible, and I would hope that R&D takes a look at what we (the Factionmasters and the players/DMs) have accomplished.

How XE will affect future RPGA campaigns set in Eberron is another story altogether. As the esteemed Mr. Mackey says, you'll have to wait and see on that.

Well at the RPGA Members Meeting a few things were mentioned:

1) They want to keep the level bumps for the D&D Campaigns
2) They like the way the faction system has worked out
3) It's probable that the new D&D Campaign will be in Eberron

I would bet we'll see similar things with the new RPGA campaign

Before people panic, what Harli says is true.

BUT . . .

Remember that a D&D Campaign is not a Living campaign in RPGA parlance. The new Living Forgotten Realms campaign will not have level bumps. The campaign that replaces Xen'drik Expeditions will have level bumps.

The RPGA likes the idea of offering the two different types of campaigns. Both appeal to different players for a variety of reasons, and now that the XE campaign has worked out some of the kinks in the D&D Campaigns system, it has proven to be successful in what it does.

Sorry if I caused confusion. I said D&D Campaigns specifically since it was different from Living Campaigns :) Thanks for clarifying Shawn. The Living Campaign is already confirmed to be Living Realms.

No worries. I know you know the difference, but there are enough rabid anti-D&D Campaign people floating around and looking for something to jump up and down about that I wanted to be clear about this.

Before the announcement, some people were claiming that the RPGA wanted to kill the Living campaign model and move everything to the D&D Campaign model, which of course is just not true, as has been shown. The Living campaign model is alive and well, and will be for as long as the players flock to it as they did to Living Greyhawk.

Good call by the RPGA here. Personally, I would prefer to do Living Campaigns, but I have extremely limited opportunities to play in my area, so the D&D campaigns tends to work out best for me as I can go to a Con and not worry about having to simply hide from everything that comes after my fellow party members who are all X levels higher than me.

Now if I could just get a couple more players and a DM in my area I could both DM and play. :p
