| The Crimson Dawn12-10-06, 03:52 AM | When I was checking this setting out it had a list of available books and dragon magic is one of them. I also noticed that the Crimson Codex faction is develooped towards exotic, draconic classes. In its description it even mentions unlocking the Dragon Shaman, however it mentions nothing about the Dragonfire adept. Now I am hoping that I can choose this class as I think it would be sweet and it fits thematicly. It is not evil, it is an acceptible book, and it was not on the list of prohibited classes (nor is on the ok classes it just is not there at all). So is it an oversight that it is not listed or is it officially not a class I can choose? |

Many of the books that are out now were not available when the campaign was being planned and implemented, and the implementation of the campaign, for the most part, was done by someone who is no longer with the RPGA. | The Crimson Dawn12-10-06, 02:11 PM | Thanks! Though I have to wonder is three slots a lot in this game? It sounds like a lot but I dont know how many I start with and how many is the limit for slots. Is three slots taken harmful to your character when it is all used just to get a base class? |
| smerwin2912-10-06, 02:17 PM | You get one expansion slot per level. You can, for example, use your first, second, and third-level slots to unlock a base class. So you could play that class right away, but you couldn't unlock anything else until 4th level. |
| The Crimson Dawn12-10-06, 07:15 PM | Well since it takes up my first three slots what would my opprontunity cost be. In other words what am I giving up for the ability to be a Dragonfire Adept? What things do you get to put into these expansion slots? By the way I would be so excited to be a dragon fire adept as it has all the knowledge skills and thus I get that cool sounding glypth book along with its sweet powers of the dragon... |
| smerwin2912-10-06, 08:10 PM | Give the XECS 1.1 a gander and you will see what things you have to unlock to take. Basically, anything in the PHB, DMG, and Eberron Campaign Sourcebook are open to take without unlocking. Everything else (except for some Faction-specific rules items) need to be unlocked. Shawn |
| The Crimson Dawn12-12-06, 04:35 AM | Ok I think I understand. Even though the class is not listed I can take it anyway by spending the three cards. This means I can not use any more till 4th level. Ok now I just need to add to my concept and flush it out a bit and I think I will have a fun character! Dragonfire Adepts make awesome sages. I think I will boost my knowledge skill with invocations along with that identify invocation. Not optimal but when combined with my nice amount of skill ranks in knowledges and use magic device everyone will come to me for all the answers! |
| pedr12-12-06, 08:08 AM | Just one clarification - your expansion list has nothing to do with cards. At all. You have two completely separate things: 1) An expansion list which you can fill as specified in the CS, with one slot per level 2) A 'stack' of campaign cards which has four spaces (at 1st level) and which is a physical representation of action points. So if you have four MoH or Xen'Ex campaign cards you can put them all in your stack (although some creation cards take up more than one space). These two things do not interact at all - they are two independent methods for you to get access to extra rules items. |
| Wrathamon12-13-06, 06:50 PM | what if you take the Alternative class feature or Equipment option that you have to take at 1st level? Could you not unlock a base class? ALso, if it cost 3 slots... Example if I didnt take it at 1st level, I would write down level 2 - dragonfire adept level 3 - dragonfire adept level 4 - dragon fire adept Could I take dragonfire adept at 2nd level or do I have to wait till I am 5th level? |
| smerwin2912-13-06, 07:48 PM | You get the item you unlock at the level you start to unlock it, not at the end. So in the case above, you can take the dragonfire adept class at 2nd level. Shawn |
| Wrathamon12-14-06, 05:40 PM | nice! |
| Rerednaw12-15-06, 08:30 PM | You get the item you unlock at the level you start to unlock it, not at the end. So in the case above, you can take the dragonfire adept class at 2nd level. Shawn I'm confused. Base class is 3 expansion slots. Since you can take the benefit of what you are buying with the slot as soon you get the slot, you can take dragonfire adept at 3rd level. This means you have 2 levels in another class first, right? I don't know if I'd want to take that big a hit. |
| smerwin2912-15-06, 09:20 PM | If you wanted to take Dragonfire Adpet at first level, you could assign your first three expansion slots to that class: so your first, second, and third level slots would be Dragonfire Adept. You couldn't take anything with another expansion slot until 4th level, and you could start as a 1st-level dragonfire adept at 1st level. If the item costs more than one expansion slot, you can take it at the level when you first buy it, not at the last. Shawn |
