I noticed recently that the XECS rules on dying use an XP penalty based on your character level. Do I count in my LA (making it effective character level) for that penalty? That would make it the only case in the XECS that does that, to the best of my knowledge. Or do we gnolls and such get a discount on XP loss from death (somewhat offsetting all the disadvantages we get from LA)?

Also, while we're on the subject, how do we handle XP loss from a Raise Dead in mid mod? I know they are not always available, but when you can get the raise in the middle of the module, do you assume you need to drop a level? The XP loss rules for death in XE are such that you can't tell if it would lower you a level or not.

No, use your effective character level.

This I have to ponder. I'll have a ruling by the upcoming Dispel Confusion.

Alright, thanks.
I did have the DM use my ECL for the XP loss, so it's good to know that was correct (and I didn't just toss 500 XP unnecessarily).
At the time I had played two mods with that char since hitting level 7, so it was likely I wouldn't have leveled down.. plus in a con slot it can be hard to keep things moving when you have to change everything on your character sheet to reflect a level loss. (Also, can you lose enough XP to drop down below the bump?)
In any case we continued without the level drop and everything worked out okay and a good time was had by all. Yay. I would just like to know the officially correct way to handle it in the future.

You can never drop below the level bump, even if you die.

I died and got raised, and now I am listed as lv 6 in the dabase. If you can never drop below the level bump, how do I get this corrected?
