Characters track the event treasure on the Adventure Journal. Does the 'campaign cost' mean that consumables cost five times as much and soforth? Or is it at normal cost because it goes away after you use it? [also, have I mentioned how much I hate not being able to copy text from the RPGA PDFs? It's not really doing anything to stop piracy (after all, you can just distribute the entire file), but it makes it a pain to extract the material to comment on it, to put all of the same APL monsters on the same page for printing purposes, and so forth.] |
| smerwin2909-17-06, 09:36 AM | Yes, campaign cost means it is 5 times the cost for consummables, because it doesn't necessarily go away after you use it. If you play four XE adventures at the same event, you can carry over the Event Treasure from all of those previous adventures AT THAT EVENT into the final adventure you play there. Let me remind everyone what Event Treasure is again. Event Treasure is treasure that you can take from one session (session = adventure) to the next ONLY IF YOU PLAY MORE THAN ONE SESSION AT THE SAME EVENT. If you only play one XE adventure at an event (convention/game day/home game), you do not have to worry about Event Treasure, because at the end of the event, you only use your Equipment Value as it is registered on the RPGA Character Tracker. All Event Treasure goes "POOF" at the end of an event. So unless your players are playing another adventure at the same event after you run this DMs Mark, you do not even need to provide Event Treasure. I hope that helps. |
| arscott09-18-06, 07:28 AM | Okay. Then let me see if I have this right: If you were to play just one adventure, you'd get the EV added to your wealth in the character tracker. But since the tracker won't update until the event is over, a player in a multi-round event gets his EV in the form of event treasure instead. Once the event is over, the event gets reported and the event treasure is cashed in for EV. Correct? Does this mean that consumabe event treasure refreshes every adventure for the rest of the event? (admittedly, I'm just running the mark and the faction adventure, so this is just a hypothetical question for now) Also, I've got some questions about what rules or guidelines there are on the event treasure I reward: 1) Is it appropriate to say "potion from the DMG costing 50 gp or less" or "masterwork light armor from the PHB", or would it be more appropriate to offer "potion of cure light wounds/repair light damage" or "masterwork chain shirt"? 2) can I offer a choice between various items "Well, the Bullywug was carrying a cold iron longsword and a vial of alchemist's fire. which will you keep"? 3) If any sort of choice is allowed, would the party make the choice as a group, all getting the same treasure? or would each person get to choose a different item? 4) I presume that if I do offer a choice, the players would have to make that choice at the table, before they play another adventure. Is that correct? 5) Can event treasure be used for class features that cost money, such as a familiar? 6) What about services? could the event treasure be "Free lesser restoration from a House Jorasco hospital"? I understand if you can't answer some of these questions until the new campaign standards comes out. And these questions are more to test the limits of what exactly is allowed than to let me throw the dmg at the players and say "you're limit is 300. enjoy." Any treasure I give out will be story appropriate, so don't go changing the event treasure in your dm marks just on my account. Thanks for all your help, Alan Scott |

But since the tracker won't update until the event is over, a player in a multi-round event gets his EV in the form of event treasure instead. Does this mean that consumabe event treasure refreshes every adventure for the rest of the event? (admittedly, I'm just running the mark and the faction adventure, so this is just a hypothetical question for now) That is my understanding, yes. 1) Is it appropriate to say "potion from the DMG costing 50 gp or less" or "masterwork light armor from the PHB", or would it be more appropriate to offer "potion of cure light wounds/repair light damage" or "masterwork chain shirt"? I think either is appropriate, as long as you keep it within reason. For instance, don't give things that are locked or otherwise normally unavailable. If I have any say in the matter, the Event Treasure will be very specific in the forthcoming adventures and DM's Marks. 2) can I offer a choice between various items "Well, the Bullywug was carrying a cold iron longsword and a vial of alchemist's fire. which will you keep"? Certainly, as long as it remains beneath the gold piece limit given. 3) If any sort of choice is allowed, would the party make the choice as a group, all getting the same treasure? or would each person get to choose a different item? I would say that each PC can choose his or her own Event Treasure, based on the limits in the module. If it is a choice between a masterwork weapon and scrolls, each PC would be able to choose what he or she gets. If that's the way you want it to work based on the contents of the DM's Mark. 4) I presume that if I do offer a choice, the players would have to make that choice at the table, before they play another adventure. Is that correct? Yes, make the choice before the end of the adventure, and write it in the Adventure Journal before the next adventure begins. 5) Can event treasure be used for class features that cost money, such as a familiar? No. Because a familiar is something that stays with a PC, while Event Treasure goes poof. 6) What about services? Could the event treasure be "Free lesser restoration from a House Jorasco hospital"? As long as it was understood that this access went away at the end of the event, then I don't see anything wrong with that. Event Treasure is something that the Factionmasters did not even know about until we got the final copies of the first Faction adventures, so we are still talking about how we want this to work and any other restrictions or allowances we want to make. And my answers should only be treated as official in the sense that I made them without consulting the other Factionmasters, so things might change. Shawn Crimson Codex Guy |
