First of all, kudos to the people who wrote Well of Woe. It was SO fun!

The con officials were telling us that Well of Woe, despite being slotted for 12 hours, was only going to last 6-8. This worried me, because I wanted my 12 hours. It turns out I had nothing to fear, because our DM (Joel Velasco) went the full 12 hours, and even got extra time for us so that we could roleplay to our hearts' content. We played for a total of 16 hours!

Our group consisted of 4 BWC characters, and 2 Crimson Codex members. There was alot of suspicion and distrust, but it never came to blows. Finally in the third part of the adventure, we came to trust each other, as we put our lives on the line to make sure everyone survived. Of particular note was the fight against the Fire belcher. We fought this thing THREE times before destroying the statue that made it regenerate. One memorable moment, was when most of the party was severely injured (while we were fighting the belcher), and our BWC scout got dropped to -9 hit points.

The House Deneith Marshal yelled "Blackwheel Company! Move out! That's an order! I will not leave a man behind!" It was obvious that he intended to sacrifice himself for the good of the group. This inspired my CN Dragon Shaman to put all group differences aside; we were either all going to live or die together as a group. My vigor aura stabilized the scout, and I scooped him up to get him out of the room while the Marshal (who had been enlarged) GRAPPLED the belcher.

Long story short, our teamwork enabled us to be able to survive through the mod. Each group, without giving away key things about their factions, told the other their purpose for coming to the Well, and we found a way to achieve both purposes.

On a side note of the awesomeness of our DM, he had a quirky yet fun way to represent monsters on the battlemat: reese's peanut butter cups. If you killed the monster, you got to eat it. At the end of 16 hours of gameplay, we had a cup FILLED with empty Reese's cup wrappers, and we DANCED around the trashcan as we dumped the wrappers in, celebrating our victory!

Seriously, this mod made my con!

That's a good man of the mark! Exactly the type of conduct we expect from a Company man. He'll be up for a promotion in no time with leadership like that.

(Butter--love that you enjoyed the adventure, congrats on pulling it out successfully!)

Yea, now I just have to get the Marshal to get over me "accidently" color spraying him in the first part of the mod. :)

Actually I had a question about promotions. Any idea how it's going to work yet? I'm actually going to be running BWC in our home games, and the player who has that Marshal is VERY interested in climbing rank. He's dragonmarked, and plans to take favored in house on his way to dragonmark heir.

Will the DM have much leeway in assigning rank, or is it going to be based on level in any way? Are ranks going to be story awards? How much authority over the other party members will someone with a higher rank have?

Thank you for such high praise! *smiles* This was my first time ever playing 3.5 (other than a small oriental adventures game we played), and my first time ever playing RPGA and playing at a Convention. It was a wonderful experience, especially the Well of Woe scenarios (big props to our DM Joel for that one! WOOT FOR REESES CUPS!). I look forward to more of Blackwheel, it really appeals to a side of me that never gets expressed in alot of D&D games, and the Marshall class fits it perfectly.

((Also, does anyone know of such a thing called Tactics feats? Or a prestige class specializing in group tactics or strategy? Just curious, call me a newb))

or something like that. :D

I was the other player for this expedition and it was a lot of fun; definitely a highlight of the convention. Kudos to Joel the GM and the other players for their part in making it so enjoyable!

Zem,

There are Tactical feats in some of the secondary sources, but they do not require a group. You might be referring to Teamwork Benefits that are discussed in the DMG II starting on Page 189.

Not that this is particularly relevant to the discussion, but this shouldn't have worked. Vigor aura gives fast healing. Fast healing explicitly does not work on a creature that is at negative hit points.

Syb, can you tell me where you're getting this from? If you're correct, I'll definitely keep that in mind next time, but I can't find anything that says that. P. 293-294 of the DMG says:

"A creature with fast healing has the extraordinary ability to regain hit points at an exceptional rate. Except for what is noted here, fast healing is like natural healing (p. 146 of the PHB).
At the beginning of each of the creature's turns, it heals a certain number of hit points (defined in its description).
Unlike regeneration (page 298), fast healing does not allow a creature to regrow or reattach lost body parts.
A creature that has taken both nonlethal and lethal damage heals the nonlethal damage first.
Fast healing does not restore hit points lost from starvation, thirst, or suffocation.
Fast healing does not increase the number of hit points regained when a creature polymorphs."

Nothing about not working on unconscious characters, or those that are bleeding to death.

My son and I attended our first con at Dragoncon this year and changed our schedule inorder to fit in the Well of Woe. We were both very glad we did. While we had a little less challenging time with the fire belcher in our group, We all found the entire series very fun and interesting. While there was a good bit of distrust of each other at the begining, we learned quickly that inspite of our "moral" differences, our survival would likely depend on us all working together.

It really made for some interesting roleplay when an LG Cov. of Light Fighter steps in to defend the CE Cabal of Shadows Warlock because defending the helpless is the right thing to do and "no one is beyond redemption." Then, the warlock returning the favor later by blasting a skeletal doglike creature that got the jump on the fighter, not because it was the "right thing to do" but because he might need the fighter again later on.

Well done with these mods. I can't wait to run them for our game day crowd down here. I know they will love them also.
