Equipment Value "EV" Clarification [Archive] - Wizards Community

How exactly is the total "EV" calculated? There are a number of references to it (first is during skill ranks in 'Profession' and 'Craft' in which the total ranks times 10 is added in gp value (This IS total skill bonus, not JUST ranks isn't it? We can allow our character's attribute bonus to improve that figure, since it IS they're work that this represents/simulates, ne?) is "added to the character's EV."

In that same area where the base gp per class is listed it says that this is "added to the character's EV." Again, no "EV" definition is listed, but it does say, here, to look at the "advancement" section of the document....

Looking there I found a chart showing max gp value based on level...

So, as I understand it; this means that EV equals as such (below) per level:
Level one = ranks in craft X 10 gp + ranks in Profession X 10 gp + starting gp for class + 0 (No gp limit value for level 1 listed)
Level two = ranks in craft X 10 gp + ranks in Profession X 10 gp + starting gp for class + 450 gp (the Equipment Value limit for Level 2)
Level three = ranks in craft X 10 gp + ranks in Profession X 10 gp + starting gp for class + 1,350 gp (the Equipment Value limit for Level 3)
And so on...

The only questions I have are, 1 - is the above correct? And 2 - is that gp limit the absolute max value in gp of items we can carry/own? Plate Mail is very high cost... it'd be what level 4 or 5 before we could keep it and be under this value, but we could afford it (in the above figure) before then... Or does that relfect max gp in "limited" items (or 'more controlled (restricted, etc)') only?

Those max values are the most expensive Limited items you can purchase at those levels.
The Equipment Value(EV) you have will be listed on the character tracker
Once you've player the character in an adventure, log into the character tracker and you'll see the EV for your character listed, that'll be the amount of treasure you';ve found while adventuring, with some minimum numbers per level

For instant gratification, go register a character in the MoH tracker, you'll be level bumped to 7, and get 18,000 gold for your EV
MoH has the same limit as XenEx so that 18000 gold could be spent on any phb item at all, or limited items corting no more than 9500 each (so no +3 full plate yet)

now playing through to that level you'll probably have at least a little more gold than that, so just imagine how much you can buy ;-)

So I am to understand the EV and the amount of money a character has is similar to what is described in MoH?

So Cash on Hand and all that is still valid? I'm asking this clarification because the XECS doesn't really state CoH and I wanted to verify that it was not changed btw MoH and XE

So Cash on Hand and all that is still valid? I'm asking this clarification because the XECS doesn't really state CoH and I wanted to verify that it was not changed btw MoH and XE

So CoH (Coin on hand) would be: "Base CoH = Character level times 2 + Charisma modifier + number of ranks in craft, profession, and perform skills + 10 for each item creation feat." just like Mark Of Heroes?

And is this a "per adventure/module" gain (ie: if you have a CoH of say 20, do you take your initial wealth and add 20 each mod you play)?

So, over all you have a CoH (as above) and an EV (based on level and class) that determine how much you make per adventure/module and how much gear in limited items you can have at your level (respectively). And that cost is total or per item (the latter obviously).

And "wealth" would be how much gold you actually have; for example at level one it says all craft and profession ranks X10 + the base gp for your class is what you start with. After buying equipment, if I have say 80 gold left, and that 20 CoH, does that mean I would have 100 at the beginning of my second (figuring it DOESN'T add in to your first mod, that'd be silly) adventure/module and every one there after, allowing me to buy new gear as I want (within the rules of course) providing I don't ever have more than my EV limit in limited items?

*thinking I am finally getting off the 'dope cart' and getting this. :embarrass *

the coin on hand function from MoH isn't here, I was only reffering you to the character tracker to show how your EV should be reported to you
the sections it was mentioned in (skills and equipment) are here and both references are not present.

Ok, but other than that, I've got it all sorted out?

So basically we've got the base class gp and whatever the skills/feat bonus (x10) at creation time gives us to play with to buy gear and toys throughout our adventuring at level 1, then at two that amount +450 gp (the level 2 cap) to play with?

maybe I wasn't clear before
that chart has NOTHING to do with how much gold you'll have
after each adventure check the character tracker and you'll get an EV reported to you (as well as your level) you may have 1500 gp at 2nd level, I don't know what you'll get
the 450 is ONLY the per item limit
Add whatever the tracer says you have, your starting gold and your Craft/profession gold to get your total
That might give you 1800 gold as a random example
You could buy MW full plate (because MW fullplate is out of the phb) and have 150 gold left over
You could buy 3 different things from the DMG that cost 450 each and spend the rest on regular equipment
or any combination that doesn't spend more than 450 on an item outside the phb and ECS chapter 6

AH! I got it. So the base gold is all we start with for a basic ground-level entry amount. After that, it's automatically updated per the online tracking thing?

Add whatever the tracer says you have, your starting gold and your Craft/profession gold to get your total
That might give you 1800 gold as a random example

Do they (I've not finished making my character yet, I WAS going to do a Dragon Shaman, but it seems a TON of people are doing that, so maybe a Bard class (to be an "Archivist/Historian/'Daniel-Jackson'-like-Researcher")) give you some at level 1 too, or just after playing some mods?

At level 1 you just get your starting gold. After you've run an adventure, you follow the EV you've accumulated after that point. :)

Roger that. Guess that means no increase in cash due to perform/craft/profession skills..

Only the BWC get more than the starting listed gold, right?

So just base amount listed per class? In the Campaign Standards there's a section (quoted below) under character creation that reads:

Craft and Profession skills: Craft and Profession
skills grant a 10 gp x the character’s ranks in bonus
gold to your characters Equipment Value or EV.
Both of these bonuses represent the amount of
gold you made using these skills during campaign
downtime. Multiple Craft and Profession skills
bonuses stack.

Does that only apply after you've played a scenario?
