| Wuafeeldh08-08-07, 10:54 PM | Without going into detail, at the end of part 2 of Eyes of the Lich Queen, Cabal, Covenant and Blackwheel Company characters who succeed in their faction goals may receive a story object granting them an item that is normally single-use. The Covenant story object specifies that this is a one-time-ever item, but the other two don't mention it. Is this a simple omission in the text, or do the Cabal and Blackwheel story objects actually refresh each module? |
| Tabiani08-08-07, 11:08 PM | The description for that story object in my Character Printout starts out "The following items are one use." I didn't get that impression as our GM read them to us after the mod, but it's pretty much black and white on the official printout that all four are one use items. |
| Wuafeeldh08-08-07, 11:12 PM | That's probably because the GM was as confused as I am (and, like me, hadn't played it, so couldn't find out that way). :) Thanks! (Presuming you mean all three--the Codex item looked fairly permanent from where I was sitting.) |
| Tabiani08-08-07, 11:27 PM | While the Codex item seems a bit more, ummm, permanent in nature the description doesn't distinguish between it and the other three. Would seem a bit odd that three factions get a one-time use item and the other gets a basically unlimited use item. Do you have the item description from the module and have you compared that to the online description for your character? |
| Harliquinn08-09-07, 08:01 AM | The Codex item doesn't even 'exist' as far as I can tell (there is no item that I have seen bearing either name), so there's no way to judge the duration that it lasts. |
| Timlagor08-09-07, 12:42 PM | The module is a lot less clear than the current official printout ..it wasn't the GM's fault. The Story Object makes it pretty clear that all of them are one-offs. |

It's still not clear how the Codex one works. Is it for a duration? I can't imagine it's just for one check. |
| Lilinthra08-09-07, 02:36 PM | I would expect that you can use it as having the book if you didn't previously, or increasing the bonus to +2 if you do have one. Whichever is appropriate, the effect would only be for the length of one module. I am going from memory, though, and not the text in my Character Tracker. |
| Garden_State_Gamer08-09-07, 03:40 PM | The way "Succeeded in Second Faction Mission" story object reads, as far as object description: "For successfully achieving their second Faction objective in this adventure, the PC earns a special reward from her Faction. A specialty item dedicated to the PCs' faction affiliation is delivered to him or her immediately." ONLY the Covenant of Light story object specifically says it is single use. Which is a little annoying, unless it's a permanent effect on a single weapon, that can later be retooled to reflect an upgrade of weaponry. If that is the case, it probably should have read "this item can only be applied to one weapon in the character's collection." |
| lseelba08-11-07, 02:28 PM | I ran EotLQ2, so all I have access to is the print version. In my opinion the electronic one supercedes the print one. My personal interpretation (which has no real bearing lol) is that the Blackwheel, Cabal, and CoL items were one use items, while the Codex item was permanent. To be completely honest, someone needs to contact August Hahn and get the official clarification. |
| Garden_State_Gamer08-13-07, 10:51 AM | my apologies; I was going purely on the copy from the Mod. One of my players pointed out the "single use" on their tracking sheet. I would agree that electronic paperwork would supercede the Mod. IMHO, I think any "single use" item is an inadequate story object given the nature of EV in Xen'drik Expeditions. The other story object involving Vulkoor was cool, but very unlikely that anyone would actually take the time to loot given the urgency of a burning building. Perhaps a "Merchant of Lazaar" story object where there was a discount on a specific consumable item for each faction to reflect the time spent role-playing in the area to find and/or woo the pirate prince. Of course it's no use crying of spilled milk and all that, but it's something to consider in the future. |
| Harliquinn08-13-07, 11:04 AM | Yeah when we were done playing our GM told us the other story object we didn't get and everyone was wondering how that came about *laugh*. There's a burning building, quick everyone search for something that looks like a story object :) I can't complain though, we had a great time and I appreciate being able to play this for our Xen'drik characters. |

No, our party didn't get it either. :heehee |
| Diablo0508-13-07, 07:27 PM | The thing is, how could you enforce a one use story object? Theres no way for a GM to mark down that a story object has been used when they report the adventure. Is this just supposed to be on the honor system? |
| Timlagor08-14-07, 06:54 AM | Burning building? Tut tut. Fortunately I never found out that I was accompanied by such lowdown ingrates that they would steal from the nice man. I get the impression that we did considerably better than was expected in a number of ways in that module :) [remember: prisoners can be valuable too!] |

Is this just supposed to be on the honor system? Well I do all my playing and DM'ing online so pretty much EVERYTHING is the honor system. If someone tells me they have a certain feat, or card, or story object, I just believe them. There's no way to check a character sheet, card stack, or adventure journal. It works fine for me! -Lou |
